Amanda Fleming Obituary

Amanda Sharnee Fleming, 32, passed away in an automobile accident on the Parks Highway on Aug. 22, 2017. Amanda was born on May 20, 1985, in Modesto, Calif. She moved to Alaska at the age of 6. She attended North Star Elementary, Romig Middle School and graduated from West High School. She graduated from University of Alaska Anchorage, Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Public Relations. Amanda was a long time employee at Organic Oasis, Bear Tooth and Spenard Roadhouse. She loved her job.
Amanda had an adventurous, colorful spirit. She loved the outdoors, Jet Skiing, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, hiking with friends and doggies, berry picking, fishing, camping and outdoor music festivals. Amanda always enjoyed a party. She was a great cook. She loved the hula hoop and owned several. Amanda was beautiful and feminine but tough and never prissy. She once helped her dad and sister build an entire car. She was an artist and musician. Her favorite musical instrument was the drum. She was very creative, loved to draw and paint, write, crochet and sew. She created many costumes and wore them proudly. Her very fun loving, positive personality could light up a room. She made friends everywhere she went. She loved her two dogs, Konshura and Chinookz; she called them her "fur babies."
Amanda is survived by her father, Loni Fleming; mother, Robbie Furr Fleming; sister, Candace Fleming; grandparents, Lionnel and Mary Fleming and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Amanda was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ted and Lucile Fleming; and grandparents, Jessie Ray and Jewell Furr of California.
We will celebrate her life and keep her fun loving memories close in our hearts forever. Services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at 1 p.m., at Heritage Angelus Chapel, 440 E. Klatt Road. Flowers are welcome, but donations on Amanda's behalf can be made to Northrim Bank, Robbie Fleming Memorial for Amanda Fleming.
Amanda loved to travel. Her ashes will be spread in Denali Park, Homer and Valdez, Alaska; Hawaii; Seattle, Wash.; Oakdale, Calif. (her family's river resort); and Costa Rica.
Helping people came naturally to Amanda. Her last task was to drive to Denali to pick up a friend that was homesick. She died helping a friend in need.

What a beautiful person! Such a lovely, generous woman. I just learned of your loss and my brother Doug and I grieve with you. I pray the joy Amanda brought to your lives is never extinguished, even through the deep sadness of losing her. In this life, every day is a gift, a gift to share with those near us. Amanda will always be a gift and blessing to you.

Sorry for your loss. Cherishing the memory of Amanda is a fitting expression of your love. "I have been sleepless from grief, strengthen me according to your word."(Psalm 119:28)

I regret I cannot make it to Amanda's service. She was my student at UAA. I loved running into her at the dog park or on the streets of Anchorage after she graduated. She was curious, bright and creative. I send my condolences to her family and friends.

The love you had for life - lit up everything around you. That light - is what makes the darkness o' missing you here on this Earthly plane - less dark. So glad, we had the chance to share laughs, drinks & run around this town when we did! Till the next life...
