Andrew Conn Obituary

Andrew Conn was murdered on, 7 December 2013. His body was discovered in Andy's home, which he had built with the help of family and friends in summer 2013. He is survived by countless friends, numerous mentors, and an incalculable number of people he has helped (more than once literally giving someone he didn't know the shirt off his back), as well as two grandmothers, ten cousins, three aunts, two uncles, his brother Matthew and mother Nancy.

Andy was born on Christmas Eve 1980. His life-long friend Lori was born in a neighboring room, preceding him by mere minutes. As was the case Andy's whole life, his father was not there that night. His mother raised her two sons, sometimes working two jobs - always making sure needs were met. As all who knew Andy are aware, he learned his work ethic from his mother, grandparents, and uncle Steve, who was also his wingman.

He had charm and charisma to last centuries. He was a natural salesman. He remembered not only everyone's name, he remembered their partners, parents, and children. He also knew everyone's nickname - often because he coined it. As anyone who encountered him knew, Andy told the best stories and always was the funniest person in the room. He understood the power of laughter to heal. If SBS hadn't taken a chance on a scrappy kid in the summer of 1999, then he would have become a legendary comedian. And he was.

He touched many lives. He traveled the world. Andy was a son and brother to many - Carolyn, Denny, and Justin Ryan among them - in fact so many names that it would violate the ADN word count to share them all.

If you knew Andy, whether for 2-3 minutes or 32 years, please join us in remembering him.

All are welcome to come celebrate and share, toast and roast, Memories of Andy, which will take place Saturday, 14 December 2013 at Eagle River Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be sent to the Arc of Anchorage or Planned Parenthood in his name.

I was an old long lost friend of Andy's, we were the best of friends as teenagers. We lost touch long ago, and reconnected I think in about 2002. He brought me back a bag of my favorite coffee from Seward, and he had written a note on the bag for me. I kept it in my freezer for about ten years :). I had just been searching for him on facebook last winter but couldn't find him by name. Wasn't too long after that I saw the news story, and even though it had been so long since we talked, my heart broke. Even though some time has passed, I want to express my deepest sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Once you knew Andy, you loved him forever, even if you lost contact.

Rest in peace Andy. I was saddened and shocked by your passing and I reflected on it by remembering the funny stuff. Emailing each other jokes during conference calls we were on, and sharing a laugh on work trips over a beer. Cheers Andy! I wish for peace during this time to your friends and family.

My husband and I never met Andrew, but felt we've missed out by his passing too soon. After reading his obituary we both said we knew him! Then that empty feeling struck, we wont. Wanted to meet him! So sorry his Mom, brother, family and friends are going through such heartache. We pray in Jesus's name for you all and the Mountain Vista neighborhood. There are good people there as no doubt Andrew Conn knew. God Bless You Andy.

Andy was my good friend for the last 15 years. We worked together at SBS Wasilla for five years and those were the best years I had at SBS. He had a way a making you feel good whenever he was around, along with his funny and sarcastic comments. My condolences to his family and friends, but I know he will be with us in spirit and memories forever. Love you Andy

I dont even know what to say: such well-written, eloquent words. Andy always struck me as a very articulate, comfortable, positive person every time I talked to him. I still can't believe I won't be surprised by him again, and I'm sure my disbelief is a fraction of how his family feels. I am so sad, but I know somewhere, a shimmer of Andy is around us all, and hopefully that can give us all some comfort for now. He and my son shared the same birthday, and I always joked that they were the best Christmas presents ever! I will miss him, and I will be praying for his family and friends so we can somehow make sense of everything and find peace.

Andy was such an original; it doesn't feel real that he won't be calling soon. His creative, usually hilarious perspective will be missed in my home and our lives. From encouraging me to be an awesome mom (like his own) to just brightening my day with a phone call and story. I pray you have peace now, am thinking of your Mom and family and will hold you in my heart my friend.
