Betty-Ann Sikora Obituary

Betty-Ann Sikora, age 72, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2011 in Anchorage, Alaska. She was surrounded by her three daughters at the time of her death.

Born on December 18, 1938 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Betty-Ann was the first child of Oiva and Elizabeth Maki. Her brother, Fredric Maki lives in Illinois with his wife, Anita.

In 1957, Betty-Ann married Jacob Sikora and they raised three daughters, Kimberley, Karin and Kirsten. Betty-Ann was a devoted wife and an amazing, attentive mother. She had a love of life and a wonderful sense of humor. Her strength of character carried her through difficult times and she was always there for her family with her continued love and support.

When her youngest child reached middle school, Betty-Ann returned to school to pursue her life-long passion for nursing. She graduated from Montachusett's School of Nursing as Valedictorian.

Betty-Ann worked in a number of nursing fields throughout her career, (ER, Urology, Neurology, etc.) but her favorite position was as a circulating nurse in the operating room. She found every aspect of the human body fascinating and always pushed herself to learn more. During her career, she provided care for patients in Wharton,Texas, Anaheim, California and 18 years in Anchorage, Alaska (10 years at Providence Alaska Medical Center).

Although Betty Ann had many hobbies such as travel, quilting, camping, and gardening; her passion was spending time with and being able to participate in the lives of her daughters and her four grandchildren; Elizabeth, Jacob, Aidan and Charley.

A celebration of life will be held for Betty-Ann (Maki) Sikora, at 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 2nd at Community Covenant Church in Eagle River, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

A memorial service will be held in the Lunenburg area this September, (2011).

Kim, Karin and Kirsten Your mom was my 2nd mom. She was fun, loving and genuinely caring. I loved to hear her laugh. She was easy to talk to and a good listener. Your children are so blessed to have such a wonderful person as their grandmother! Love you all.. Karen

May these words of comfort help you in your time of sadness.(1 John 3:20) . . .God is greater than our hearts and knows all things. . .
God knows how you feel and can give each one that grieves just what they need to cope at such a sad time.

Karin and Kim - I know you both were very involved with your mom. I would like you both to know that I am thinking of you and hope you will think of all the wonderful times instead of the short time of distress. Know that I'm thinking of you. All my heartfelt thoughts go out to you. Hugs, Vicky E.

Dear Kirsten and all bereaved family, Your mother was my husband's nurse @ Providence. Her no nonsense nursing pushed him to a speedy recovery. She was so delighted that we recognized her team during National Nurses Day. A very special lady. Wishing you comfort in your time of loss and eventual joy in the shining memories of your personal angel. Denise (Belkoski) Tillotson
