I was sadened to read about the passing of Brooks Smith recently. I had the pleasure of working as a cable splicer apprentice with Brooks in the early 80's. We were both rather young and often got teased by the seasoned journeymen cable splicers as they asked who was in charge and if we knew what we were doing. Brooks was a highly accomplished cable splicer and taught me the trade and I am forever grateful. He was a lot of fun to be around and had a great sense of humor. I wish I would have kept in contact with him after he moved to Soldotna.
Rest in peace Brooks, you will be missed.
