Carlos Chavesta Obituary

Carlos James Chavesta, 29, passed away on July 3, 2015, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on Nov. 20, 1985, and was a lifelong resident of Alaska. He had been employed by U.S. Security Associates, Humpy's Alehouse and Phoenix Protective Corporation, and also owned and operated A Cut Above Entertainment as a mobile DJ. Carlos served his country in the USMC from December 2002 to December 2010, and was awarded numerous medals, including but not limited to: a Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Iraq Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, as well as two Sea Service Deployment ribbon awards. While on active duty, Carlos participated in OIF/OEF and was a member of the 24th and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Units. After an honorable discharge as a Sergeant of Marines, Carlos continued his professional training; he became a member of the Nine Lives Associates upon completing training at Executive Protection Institute; was a founding member of Phi Kappa Theta in Alaska; was a pistol trainer with the NRA; and had been an elected Senator in UAA's Student Government. Carlos was in the process of completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He enjoyed practicing his marksmanship at the rifle range as well as martial arts. Carlos dedicated his life to those he loved. Carlos is survived by his wife, Jennifer Chavesta; mother, LouAnne Carroll-Tysdal; father, Gilbert Chavesta; half-sisters, Heather Christiansen and Teresa Chavesta; half-brothers, David Harrison and Kevin Wise; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by Brian "Digger" Nelson. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2015, at 12 p.m., with a service at 1 p.m., at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage. There will be a motorcycle procession to the Fort Richardson National Cemetery for burial at 3 p.m. A celebration of Life will be held afterwards. Pallbearers include: Tom Paquette, Ben Daniels, Ryan Simmons, Kevin Wise, James Hales and Brett Hosman. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
