Clifton W. Simons

Clifton William Simons, aged 53, died suddenly on Nov. 1, 2014, in Barrow, Alaska. He was born in Binghamton, N.Y., and grew up in Macedon, N.Y. After graduating from Palmyra Macedon Central School, he went to the University of Alaska at Fairbanks where he earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He worked in the Probation Department at Spring Creek Correctional Facility in Seward, Alaska, as the probation supervisor for 19 years. In March 2014, he took on the challenge of working for the Division of Probation and Parole at Barrow, as a field supervisor. His area included the entire North Slope of Alaska. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; and stepchildren and spouses, Darla and Paul Forman, Zachary and Jasmin Pease and Ryan Pease; as well as his granddaughters, Daisy Budde and Nova Pease; with a grandson on the way. He is also survived by his parents, William and Gladys Day Simons; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rowena Simons; and sister, Dr. Kelsey Simons; as well as his nieces, Kiana and Khara Simons; and nephew, Robert Simons. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters at the Seward and Barrow Volunteer Fire Departments and the Department of Corrections. Clif was a large part of our Seward community. He lived and raised his beloved family here, recognizing it as a beautiful family community. He volunteered on the Seward Fire department for 19 years, volunteering as soon as he arrived in the community. He always believed that each individual has a responsibility to give back to the community he is supported by. Clif's love and communion with the individuals who put their lives on the line to protect others in both the fire departments and DOC was something that brought him much joy and dedication. The loss of Clif will be felt strongly throughout our community. A memorial for Clif will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2014, at the Methodist Church in Seward, located at 321 4th Ave., Seward, AK 99664. A reception will follow at the American Legion, Post 5, located at 402 5th Avenue in Seward. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family at Wells Fargo account # 2225041868.
