Corris Dossman Obituary

Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident Corris Dossman Jr., 87, was called home on June 6, 2015, while visiting his treasured cabin in Glennallen, Alaska. A service will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 2111 Muldoon Rd. in Anchorage, on June 16, 2015. Viewing will be held at 11 a.m. and the service will be at 12 p.m., with the burial immediately afterwards at Ft. Richardson Cemetery. Mr. Dossman was born on Sept. 9, 1927, in Ville Platte, La., to Corris Sr. and Martha Dossman. He accomplished his dream by venturing to Alaska in 1960, along with his wife, Lou Anne, and four children. After arriving, three more children were added to the family. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Upon leaving the Navy, he continued his career as an office machine repairman on Ft. Richardson. He owned several businesses including Dossman's Office Machine Repair and Dossman's Cajun Kitchen. Corris was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His family wrote, "Our father was first and foremost a family man who loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proud of his Creole Heritage and brought many family members from the South to The Last Frontier." He is survived by his wife, Lou Anne; daughters, Sheena Jackson, Gail (Joe) Tolliver, Tama (Larry) Cook and Kim (Adrian) Hernandez; sons, Adrian (Sydney) Dossman, Todd (Melody) Dossman and Charles Lute; and grandchildren, Lamont, Darlene, Jerron, Jamonn, Rachel, Larry, Rena, Breauna, Rene, Josh, Gabriel, Ne'Tosha, Dustin, Giani, Grant, Darius, Karl, Reauna, Todd, Devin, Marvin, Erica and Chari. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren; special cousin, McCoy Bradley; niece and nephews, Del Marie, Claude, Gary, Nathan and Ivan Doucet; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends. Mr. Dossman was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Octavia Doucet; his son, Corris Dossman; and nephew, Sammy Doucet. "Laissez le bon temps rouler!"

When I first flew Alaska Airlines into Anchorage; I picked up the airline magazine and saw the caption: Best restaurant in Anchorage: Cajun Cooking; Corris Dossman. I was impressed and that was over 15 years ago. I landed in Anchorage last night and at the Avis rental car when I gave my last name the attendant looked up and said; "So you are a Dossman and immediately began reciting the names of prominent members in the family. What a man; what a man, what a might good man. He built a legacy in the family. He will be missed, but never forgotten. We lovingly call him "Captain." Smooth sails beloved until you reach the peaceful shores. Our heart breaks, but we are proud of you.

My condolences to the Family for your recent loss. God is for you a refuge and strength; a help that is there to be found during difficult times. May the God of comfort bring you peace.

Lu Anne and family,
Was so saddened to read of my brother Knight's passing and reflected back on all the good time we had at Knights functions and at Holy Family for the pancake breakfasts, it seems all those years ago. Know you will be in my thoughts and prayers at your funeral, but I will be out of state. God Bless all of you and know Corris has already rounded up all of the other Brother Knights for a "meeting" when he arrived in Heaven!
