Daniel Fondell Obituary

Daniel Ralph Fondell died on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at his home in rural Dawson, Minn., at the age of 64, in the presence and love of his family.
Dan was born on Feb. 3, 1953, in Williamson, W.Va., to Ralph and Gertrude (Franklin) Fondell. He moved to Alaska with his family in 1959, graduating from Nome High School in 1971, and from North Park College in Chicago, Ill., in 1975, with a degree in classical philology. Dan married Luanne Anderson on Nov. 29, 1980, at Sioux Falls, S.D. Dan and Luanne made their home in Nome and then Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as CEO of Bering Straits Native Corporation. They moved their family to Dawson, Minn., in 1991, where Dan owned Wickersham Antiques, and later TAC Computers.
Dan put down roots in Dawson, serving in leadership roles at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Dawson Covenant Church, and Milan Village Arts School. In addition to his lifelong interest in history and antiques, he found a skill and passion for craftsmanship while in Dawson, developing his identity as a jewelry maker, artisan baker, silversmith and steadfast supporter of the arts.
His family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his wife, Luanne; three children, Nathaniel (Ellen) Fondell of Richfield, Minn., Elisabeth Fondell of Dawson, and Jonathan Fondell of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren, Everly, Oskar and Arlo; his parents, Ralph and Gertrude Fondell of Chugiak, Alaska; his siblings, Kathryn (James) Congdon of Manley, Alaska, Rebecca (Wayne) Carlson of Algonquin, Ill., Stephen (Lynne) Fondell of Jenks, Okla., and John (Truc Lien) Fondell of Eagle River, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Nathaniel and Lillian Franklin and Clarence and Selma Fondell; and an infant brother.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., at Dawson Covenant Church, with Rev. Erik Carlson officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Dawson Covenant Church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Our family sends you and your family our heartfelt sympathy and support in this time of loss. We were such good friends when you lived here in Anchorage, and we spent so much time together, sharing our young children and our family's lives and so much else, and we often think about both of you and those fun times. Even though we have only seen each other once in a great while, after you moved to Minnesota, we still cherish those times together. We still have a picture of us all dressed up in tuxes and evening dresses at a function at the Captain Cook Hotel! Dan was a great friend and colleague, and we shared such good times! Our sympathies to you and your children.

I would like you to know that I will be going to Texas. I want to see the cactus. I like seeing sculptures. And my favorite thing to do is sit on the bench. I would like to eat at the restaurants.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. He encouraged and help me publish 'Dustbunnies'. He was a very gifted and caring person. Though his life on earth was short, he made the most of each day, and kept God in his travels. May God be with the family during this time.

My thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for our love ones lost in death can be reassuring.*
