Daniel Standifer

1943 - 2015

Daniel "Dubby" Standifer Sr. died in his home in Tyonek, Alaska, on Aug. 11, 2015. Daniel was born in Tyonek on April 13, 1943, to William Standifer Sr. and Catherine Chickalusion. He attended Chemawa Indian High School in Salem, Ore. He was an Army veteran and served in Germany. He married the love of his life, Kate E. Maillelle, on Jan. 30, 1967. He dedicated his life to his family by providing for them thru commercial fishing, working for the Kodiak Mill in Tyonek and at Beluga Power Plant. Daniel was a partner in Arctic Tug and Barge and also served on the Tyonek Native Corporation Board for many years and on the Native Village of Tyonek Council as President and member. His dedication for the Village of Tyonek never faltered; His favorite quote was, "Never forget where you came from!" He lead a full life by being a family man and leader for the people of Tyonek. He was loved by many and will be missed by those who knew him. His love for life included hunting, fishing, trapping and participating in his kids basketball games and school activities. He always had a ready smile and wave for all. Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Standifer; and sons, Daniel Standifer Jr. and Michael Constantine. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Williford and son-in-law, Jack Williford; sons, David and Simeon Standifer; brothers, Bill and Joe Standifer; grandchildren, Matthew, Kate, Laural, Danielle, Antonia, Lucas, David, Darius and Niko; and countless nieces and nephews. Daniel's funeral services were held at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Tyonek on Aug. 13, 2015, at 2 p.m. Daniel was laid to rest at the Tyonek Cemetery after the funeral.
