Dashiell Xavier Smith

2011 - 2019

Dashiell Xavier Smith, age 7 years old, died in his parent's arms at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, on Jan. 25, 2019, after struggling with complications from Fumarate Hydratase Deficiency, the rare genetic disorder he was born with.
He was born on March 17, 2011, in Anchorage, to parents Paul William Smith III and Christina Soares Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents; siblings, Finnegan, Alexander and Denali; his maternal grandfather, Jerome Soares; his paternal grandmother, Cheryl Smith; his aunts and uncles, Daniel Smith, Matthew Smith, Peter Smith, Tara Smith and Alan Smith; and his cousins, Greta, Nora and Julia Smith.
During his brief life he enjoyed listening to and making music, watching animated movies, playing with his friends and making art. He was loved by all who met him, and he will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at The Children's Hospital at Providence Alaska Medical Center for the incredible care provided to Dashiell; and a very special thank you to his therapy specialists Dee Berline, Cara Leckwold and Kristen Wermager. We would have been lost without you. The teachers and staff at Nunaka Valley Elementary and Denali Montessori were wonderful and he really enjoyed his time spent there. The family appreciates all of the prayers and concerns extended to us during this time.
On Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, a viewing will be held in the small chapel at St. Patrick's from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in the main church. A reception will follow at his family's home.
