David Cantor Obituary
After he returned home he met my mother Clyde and they were married in August 1969. I, Jennifer was born in 1973 and my sister Meredith was born in 1975. Meanwhile, my Dad was a banker in Oxford Alabama. In 1978, the four of us moved to Alaska, the Last Frontier. For the first couple of years, my Dad stayed in banking but then opportunity called... He became a State Farm Agent. For 27 years, my Dad worked with "The Farm" in Anchorage. He loved being an agent and loved Alaska. He traveled all over the world and made friends everywhere he went. Alaska was always his true home.
Several years ago he retired and moved back to Alabama to be closer to me. In 1999, I gave him his first grandchild, Dahlia. Three years ago my sister blessed him with two more Grandchildren, Sydney and Addison. Then 19 months ago his only grandson was born, Tyler. He loved his grandbabies and they loved their "Granddaddy".
Last year, he bought a farm in Ardmore Alabama and had become a Gentleman farmer. This past Thanksgiving he hosted a large family gathering at the farm. I am so thankful that we will have those special memories to remember him by.
To honor his memory we had a Memorial Service on Sunday December 9th at 3 p.m. at Madison Chapel in Madison Alabama. Dad wanted to be cremated, next Summer Meredith and I will take his ashes home, to Alaska.

I worked with Dave at SF for years...for some reason he popped into my head this morning and I learned of his passing. He will be greatly missed by many, many people.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Dave. He was an awesome man and a good friend. I saw him weekly when he was in anchorage for reflexology. One thing I can tell you is he love his family and grandchildren! You were a blessing to him! My condolences!

Dave was a big brother to me during his years as a State Farm Agent. He had the most wonderful, soothing voice and always called me on my birthday which made my day. I will never forget him. He is truly missed everyday. Thank you to the family for sharing such a great man!

I had the great pleasure of meeting your Dad on one of my State Farm trips to Anchorage and we hit it off immediately - because we are both from Alabama. I always enjoyed being around your Dad, he was full of life and always made you feel like family. He will be missed!

Dave was my new neighbor on Lewter Hollow road and we talked truck to truck on occasions along the road. I liked him immediately and just learned that he had passed from us. May the Lord comfort all of his family and may he be at peace in heaven.

You are gone so suddenly from my life but you will never be gone from my heart. We had 35 years of friendship that spanned AK to FL for me and AL for you. As always, at a time like this I wish we had been together more often but I am grateful that we communicated on Thanksgiving day. The next time I see you, my friend it will be in the "great beyond" and I look forward to that too. I have lost a dear dear friend and the world has lost a truly good man. Rest in peace, Dave. Sincere condolences to the family. I have known Dave for many years, first as my long time insurance agent, then as a neighbor, and always as a friend. What a special gentleman, truly one of a kind. How he looked so forward to being near his girls and his "grands". It is wonderful he had that time with them. Dave was our State Farm agent in Alaska & helped us through our horrific loss in coping with Ron's permanent disabilities from being hit by an uninsured motorist. What a grand and gentle man. We are pleased to hear he had many dreams come true!

Dave always told me that he wanted to be remembered just "As a good man." He certainly will be thought of as that, and so much more. Dave was such a very good person, and so loved. The world is a bit dimmer without the twinkle in his eyes. He was "always there" for family and friends. I have many wonderful memories of Dave since 1986. I am sharing one photo that I took in Rarotonga. I hope it will bring a smile to Jennifer, Meredith, Mona and Lamar. We were all fortunate to be touched by Dave's bright light. He is greatly missed. My sympathy to all of his loving family and friends.

In the mid 80's, David did a surety bond for me to get my process servers license. I was a single mom with two kids and did not have the "liquid assets" needed for anyone to bond me. Well, he did and I still have that license and the money I made serving papers helped me so much with raising my two kids. I will always be grateful to him. He was a very, very kind person. Dave was our State Farm agent for many, many years in Anchorage. He was so friendly to all his clients and never took himself too seriously. He had a joie de vivre that was contagious. Dave was my dear friend & State Farm agent for 26 years. We spoke frequently on the phone after he moved to Alabama and I had moved to Tucson. He planned to ride out and for a visit next summer. He spoke often of how happy he was with his new life...

I am sorry to hear about Dave's passing. Although, it has been many years since I have seen Dave, I still recall with pleasure and amusement the time spent with him in the late 70's when we worked together. Dave knew how life should be lived.

So sorry I did not make it to your memorial service just sw it was yesterday. I he to kow I was one of the last people you talked to that day.. I am so sorry I didn't attend the memorial service yesterday. Just didn't know about it until today. Growing up around David, I'll always remember how special he was. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Dave was a good neighbor in Ardmore Tennessee, Help him learn the ropes on a tractor, and was amazed how he kept his Barn and stuff in order, I just found out today about his death, Dave would let me borrow the shirt off his back, but I was scared to borrow anything from him because it was all Clean, Family he purched the farm beside me and his biggest thrill was his family and grandkids he had big plans for them to have fun on the farm , I lost my 25 year old daughter just before he purchased the farm and when I told him about the death of a child , big tears came down, I did not get to know him long, So long friend

I met David about two years ago having the honor of his company one to three days a week. He made me smile with his honesty and willingness to share his experiences. He is most definitely in Heaven laughing. God Bless his family and friends

I met Dave in Rarotonga, Cook Islands in 1993. He was very much the father figure to me, listening toy problems, offering me advice, and kicking my butt when needed. All this by either email or telephone. Dave & I lived worlds apart. He in Alaska, me in New Zealand but he never forgot my birthday, nor I his. His premature death has shocked and saddened me deeply. He was so full of life and embraced it with a passion. Dr Dave THe Dixie Rave was how he first introduced himself to me. But he will always be just "Big Guy" to me and my family, Dave's "Kiwi Muffuns". Thank you for being my friend. I will miss you. Sending Aroha & Awhi to Jennifer & Meredith. David and I were childhood friends through Jr and Sr High. Just had been reunited with Dave two years ago. My wife and I were privledged to have lunch with him a few weeks ago. We have lost a TRUE friend.

I was Dave's auto underwriter when he worked for State Farm. I considered him a good friend and an honest agent in dealing with the policyholders and the regional office staff people.
