David Savage Obituary
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Anchorage Masonic Lodge #17, 1431 Eagle Street in Anchorage. Internment with full military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m., May 23, 2014 at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery. Those attending will need to meet at the JBER entrance gate at 1:00 p.m.
David was born December 24, 1919 to Josephine and Gordon Prescott Savage Col. (ret) in Battle Creek Michigan and grew up at Chilkoot Barracks in Haines, Alaska and later Fort Gibbon on the Yukon River in the 1920s. He eventually returned to the lower 48 with his military family to pursue in his father's footsteps as a military officer. He served in both World War II and Korean War under Generals George S. Patton and Crayton Abrams. As a senior armor officer David was involved in the biggest US Army envelopment of the German Army at the Battle of Arracourt in France. Later he taught at the Armor School in Fort Knox, Kentucky. His final military assignment was the Post Commander at Fort Richardson completing a 30 year career. Upon retirement he became a teacher in the Anchorage School District and taught Military History, US Government and English for over 25 years at Bartlett High. He was very charitable in his outlook on life and frequently supported Native organizations throughout the United States. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of both Lodge 17 in Anchorage and Scottish Rite. David married Elizabeth Eads Randall 11 January 1945 in Sebastian County Arkansas and later had three children; Adeline, Gordon and Peter. Elizabeth supported him throughout his military career as a Military Family Support member and as a nurse volunteer in "Gray" Ladies.
David was preceded in death by his son, Gordon. He is survived by both Adeline and Peter. Peter married Delores A. Savage and now lives in Anchorage as a retired senior military officer. Adeline married Terry J. Kennedy a Mobile Oil Engineer who lives in Massachusetts.

Mr. Savage was a wonderful person to work for, and I feel so lucky that I got to say a last hello and goodbye to him this summer. My condolences to his family.

I had the honor of having Mr.Savage as my teacher. He was such a fun down to earth kind of guy. My sister and I still talk about him as one of our favorites! Thank you for all you did for our country. And all you did for Bartlett High students. God Bless your family!

David was a true patriot and a gentleman.
He was active in his entire life. Most of his contemporaries are gone and he now will fill in the foursome on the golf course in the sky. R.I.P hero and

My husband, David A Thomas, Sr. and I worked with Dave at Bartlett High School.
My Husband so admired Dave and loved to play racket ball with him and John Bandle. they always had such fun.
Dave was a great man, and will be missed by all who knew him. I'm sending this from myself and my late husband who so admired Dave. Nancy Thomas.

I have great memories of Mr. Savage from my Current Events class at Bartlett in 1977. He was a great teacher!
