David Vargas Obituary

David Robert Vargas' long, valiant battle with cancer ended Sept. 23, 2010, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. He was 56.

A memorial gathering was at 4 p.m. Monday at O'Malley's on the Green.

David was born March 2, 1954, in Oakland, Calif., to Manuel and Elisia Vargas. David served his country admirably in Vietnam.

Twenty years ago, he moved to Anchorage, where he worked as an electrical manufacturers representative.

Some of David's hobbies included golf, riding motorcycles, scuba diving and travel.

"Dave's family was the most important thing in his life," his family said. "His grandchildren were the apples of his eye. Dave made the most of every day of his life."

David is survived by his wife, Kelly Grawunder; sons, Shane Vargas, Gil and Greg Grawunder; daughters-in-law, Tiffany Vargas, Kelly Grawunder and Jodi Grawunder; sisters, Maxine Crow and Pricilla Dutra; brother, Edward Vargas; his grandchildren, Mckayla , Zoey, Lola and Aniya Vargas, Reilly Grawunder, Haley and Hunter Grawunder; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, mother and father-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elisia Bush; and son, Jerry Vargas.

We will miss you Dave and will always remember the times we shared around the campfire. Be strong in knowing he would not want us to spend much time in saddness, but instead spend good times with friends and/or family around the campfire...with limes in your beer.
