Donald Dye Obituary

Donald (Don) Marvin Dye, Jr. , beloved husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully from this earthly phase of life to his forever home on June 7, 2017.

Don was born on January 18, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Donald Marvin Dye, Sr. and Evelyn Dye. He spent his early years in the Minneapolis area where he attended and graduated from North High School in 1948.

After graduating from high school, his National Guard unit was activated into the U. S. Army and he was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama. During his time at Fort Rucker, he sent for his high school sweetheart, Mary Carlson. They were married in Geneva, Alabama on March 10, 1951. Following his time in military service, he and Mary returned to the Minneapolis area, where Don followed in his father's footsteps to work in the dairy industry. They settled in Bloomington, where they raised their family of five children.

In 1974, Don and Mary moved to Anchorage, where he took a position as plant manager with Matanuska Maid Dairy. Some years later, he and a co-worker collaborated and formed a company producing ice cream, Alaska Supreme Ice Cream.

Don and Mary were members of First Presbyterian Church for many years. He also served as an elder for SeaChange Christ Community.

Don is survived by Mary, his wife of 66 years, his children, Rhonda Schlereth (Ernest); Douglas Dye (Kirstie); Daniel Dye (Elizabeth); Rebecca O'Hara (Steven); and Eric Dye (Jeannie); fifteen grandchildren and 3 (soon to be 4) great- grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Pierce and Kathleen Clouse; and brother, Charles Dye. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Marvin Dye, Sr. and Evelyn Dye, and brother, Steven Dye.

Don had an unwavering, steadfast faith and hope in Jesus Christ. He possessed an unassuming, reverent humility. He will be remembered for his empathetic nature, gruff tenderness, and the love and pride he enjoyed in his family.

A memorial service will be held on June 19, 4:00 pm, at Chapel by the Sea, 14730 Turnagain Bluff Way. Memorial gifts may be made to SeaChange Christ Community, 225 E. Fireweed Ln., Ste. 301, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Have comfort in knowing that God is close to those who are brokenhearted. Because of God's love expressed through the ransom sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ, we can look forward to seeing our loved ones again. He keeps them all in his memory. May you find comfort, strength and hope in the Father of comfort and tender mercies.
