Dustin High Obituary

Dustin David High, age 41, died of a heart attack on Nov. 8, 2016, at Valley Hospital while visiting Las Vegas, Nev. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, to Gail and Dee High, he worked with his father as a Surveyor and an Engineering Technician at DHI Consulting Engineers for 29 years. Dustin belonged to Alaska Judo Inc., USJF, Mountain View Judo, Anchorage School of Judo and was a judoka for 35 years. Dustin was in tournaments through his twenties and won Alaska State Championships. He attended Green's Montessori school, Hanshew and Service High in Anchorage.
Dustin enjoyed fishing, hunting and gold panning. He was a skilled chess, poker and blackjack player and played at every opportunity. He enjoyed golf and once hit a hole-in-one. Dustin will be remembered for his kindness, quiet humor and his devotion to family and friends.
He is survived by his partner and love of his life, Melissa Julien; his parents, Gail and Dee High; sister, Amra and brother-in-law, Christopher Custer; brother, Jeremy and sister-in-law, Cherell High; niece, Jordyn High; nephew, Dylan High; his grandmothers, Victoria Stott Rearick and Erma Muir High; his aunts and uncles, Guy and Julie Rearick, Linda Rearick, Donovan Rearick, David and Lisa Rearick, Patti Rearick, Richard and Jennifer Rearick, Deanna and Jack High, Ph.D, Judy and Richard Barney, Shauna and Harold Gulso; and numerous nieces and nephews, great aunts, great uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Lowell Rearick and Jack Carson High; uncle, James Leslie Rearick; great aunt and uncle, Jo and James Jaros, his fishing buddies.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Viking Hall, 8141 Briarwood Street, 3-7 p.m. The family encourages the wearing of Miami Dolphins football team colors as Dustin was a devoted fan.

Thank you all for your kind words of caring. We now know that Dustin died from a brain hemorrhage that took him quickly. The heart attack was secondary and most likely not something he felt. It helps me to know this.
His Celebration of Life was well planned by friends and well attended by generous and loving family and friends. The kindest of hearts spoke. They made us cry and laugh. We thank you all. Dee and Gail High
