Edwin N "Sandy" Storms

1930 - 2017

Edwin N. "Sandy" Storms, 87, died Sept. 23, 2017 of a heart attack. He was in his home.
Mr. Storms graduated high school in Ellensburg, Wash. in 1948 and went on to the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed on Enewetok Atoll during the Operation Castle hydrogen bomb tests in 1954, where he witnessed 5 nuclear explosions.
Mr. Storms moved to Alaska in 1970. He worked for Automotive Parts and Equipment (APEC) until 1975. He soon forged off on his own with a couple of business partners and started Parts Inc., selling exclusively NAPA and affiliated brands.
Mr. Storms did well. Parts Inc. had expanded to 13 storefronts by the time he retired in 1994. He and his wife, Neilda, initially chose to live in Anchorage, Alaska after that. But they soon made the move cross country to be close to her family in Pinehurst, N.C.
Upon retirement, Sandy and Nielda traveled extensively. They visited every continent, and traveled the U.S. by both car and small airplane.
Mr. Storms was preceded in death by his wife, Neilda; and his daughter, Cynthia (Jennifer). He is survived by his son, Eric; and his stepdaughters, Wendy Caruso, Susan Woodward, Nina Ableman and Robyn Moir; and 13 grandchildren.
