Effie C. Torgrimson

1957 - 2015

Long time Alaska resident Effie C. Torgrimson, 58, died surrounded by family on Dec. 5, 2015, at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. A service will be held at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church, 401 Turpin Street in Anchorage, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015. Viewing starts at 11 a.m., with a service to begin at noon. Burial is to take place at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., immediately followed by a potluck at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church. Effie was born on Feb. 25, 1957, in Perryville, Alaska, to Ralph and Oleana Phillips. She was the baby of six children. Effie was proud of her Aleut heritage and her home town. She graduated from Perryville High School in 1972. She moved to Anchorage when she was 23 years old, where she was a homemaker for the rest of her adult life. Effie adored her three daughters and five grandchildren, whom she loved with her whole heart. She was an amazing cook and passed that on to her daughters. Effie loved to crochet blankets for her family members. She also enjoyed playing bingo and Yahtzee with them. Effie was an avid fisher-woman who always caught the first and biggest fish, which was her passion in life. Effie is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Stephanie and Mark Husted of Anchorage, Colleen and Josh Timmer of Chugiak, Alaska and Kim Milbrett of Anchorage; her five grandchildren, Benjamin Roberts Jr. of Anchorage, Elijah Dorshkind of Anchorage, Heaven Husted of Anchorage, Josiah Husted of Anchorage and Addisyn Timmer of Chugiak; her beloved nephew, Dale Phillips of Gulkana, Alaska; and various nieces, nephews, cousins and family members throughout Alaska. Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Oleana Philips; her sisters, Annie Wieskamp and Eleanor Abyo; and her brothers, Thomas Shangin, Alec Phillips Sr. and David Phillips.
