I want to share who my dad was from his daughter. My dad was born to a family of wealth in Czechoslovakia. He had one older brother, Karl. As a young boy, his family was forced to leave their home and cross the border to Austria. They had to start over. His mother and father divorced a short time later with his mother staying in Austria and dad moving to Berlin, Germany. My dad was recruited to join the army at the very end of the German reign and luckily never had to fight. My father was a trained chef through his European high school (Gymnasium). His brother had moved to America, the land of opportunity and was doing well. Karl beckoned my dad to find a way to get to America. He took a job as a shipmate and got his way to this country. His first jobs in America were a a chef in Downtown Cleveland, then he got work at Ford Motor company where his brother worked. While working at Ford, my dad took classes to become an Accountant which was his career job. My dad met his wife through the the German dance club. They both loved to dance. They married in 1953, then had their first child, Edda in 1957, I was second and Erich, my brother was their third. My father and mother were married for 49 years until my mother passed away in 2002. My parents loved to travel. They have seen most of the United states, Canada and Europe. Shortly before my mom passed away, when the European borders opened up, they traveled back to their home countries, Czechoslovakia and Lithuania. The highlight of their travels was a trip to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary. My father taught us to dance; he insisted we learn to play the piano so that we learned to appreciate music, taught us manners and etiquette, common sense and showed us how to use our common sense to figure things out. He was an amazing handyman. I have a flood of good memories of my life with my dad. I will remember him with warm thoughts. The good far, far outweigh the bad. I truly believe he did the best he could. I love you dad. ~Romy

Egon Huebner was my dad. I can remember all good and bad times we had as a family as I was growing up. A few of our family vacations were in Montreal, Chicago, Thousand Islands, NY, and Put-in-bay. I can still hear my dad tell my sisters and me to quit fighting in the back seat of the car! I can also remember all the grown-up parties he had with all of his friends at the house and all the kids at the kids table in the kitchen.
He taught me independence. He'd fix or build anything. I was always there as his assistant. From fixing the dining room table or replacing the brakes on the car to finishing the basement. A lot of it was tough work, but it was always better to do the work together.
He showed me you have to be alone sometimes to just think. We'd drive to the lake to just walk on the break wall. Not saying a thing, just walking. We'd drive through the Metroparks, sometimes take a walk just enjoying nature.
Dad never complained when I practiced drums for hours and hours in the basement. I'll never forget his face when I was playing in a band at a party that my parents attended. He couldn't tell enough people that was me up there.
He was a proud man. He had a few issues. He was my Dad. I loved him.
