Emma Bozinoff Obituary

Long time Mat-Su Valley resident Emma Bozinoff passed away, at age 94, on Dec. 28, 2016, at her home surrounded by family.
Emma was born in Manheim, Germany, to Karl and Elisabeth Hizelberger. She came to the United States with her mother and sister by boat when she was just ten months old to join her father and brother in Detroit, Mich. Emma married John Bozinoff Sr. in 1952. The couple and Emma's three children began the adventurous trip to Alaska a year later.
From 1960 to 1967, Emma was a nurses-aid at the Valley Hospital and especially loved caring for the newborn babies. Emma worked for Lovejoy's laundry-mat, Teeland's Country Store and the Palmer Pioneer Home when it opened in 1971 until retiring. Emma enjoyed attending the annual Retired Valley Hospital Nurses luncheons. Emma was known for her caring ways, often putting others needs before her own. She loved to crochet, garden, preserve foods and most of all be surrounded by family and friends.
Emma accompanied John on many fishing adventures, mostly in Homer, Alaska, and often out fished him. After retiring, they moved to Silverton, Ore., where they sharpened their golfing skills and made some long lasting friendships. However, after five years of being away, their roots in Alaska drew them home, where they resided in Wasilla, Alaska, until after John Sr. passed away. Emma had since made her primary residence in her daughter's home, where many of her other children and grandchildren came to spend quality with her and she was surrounded with love.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, John Bozinoff Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Jeannie Bozinoff.
Emma is survived by her daughters, Carleen Freeman (Richard) of Issaquah, Wash., Susan Frisby (Larry) and Jo Frisby (Jim Bauer); and son, Kenneth Bozinoff (Aiying), all of Palmer, Alaska; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her family expressed gratitude to the many in home caregivers that assisted Emma. They ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Palmer Senior Services or the Alzheimer's Association.
A celebration of life will be held at the Annex, 247 South Alaska Street in Palmer, Alaska, on Jan. 7, 2017, at 2 p.m.
Legacy Funeral Home Kehl's Palmer Mortuary cared for arrangements.

May family and friends find comfort in knowing that Almighty God and his son Jesus Christ care about you, especially during this difficult time. Please read 1 Peter 5:6,7. God promise will help you to endure.

Sometime back in the 1980's John, Emma, Ruby and Bill Church, my wife and I went to (I believe) Jakalof Bay, across from Homer. In about 2 to 2-1/2 hours we raked up three or four trash cans full of hardshell clams. The six of us drifted on Kachemak's glassy surface for a couple of hours shucking, chuckling and sharing.
It was always a pleasure to spend time with John and Emma - truly fine folks.
My heart goes out to the family. My mother died of Alzheimer's so I understand what you went through.

My deep condolences to the family. May the assurance at Psalm 29:11 be comforting at this difficult time.

It was such an honor and delight to know Emma. We looked forward and enjoyed having her in our Art Links class on Fridays when she was able to come. Emma always brought her along her smile and friendly personality - we were always grateful for her presence. Thank you, Emma for all the joy you brought to those around you and your community. Many Blessings to your family.
