Frank Duxbury Obituary

Longtime Alaskan Frank Duxbury, 60, died March 1, 2008, at Alaska Regional Hospital after a brief battle with acute myelogenous leukemia.
A celebration of Frank's life will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Sourdough Mining Co.
Frank was born Aug. 5, 1947, in Tallahassee, Fla. He moved to Ripon, Calif., when he was about 12 years old, and that's where he grew up and made his lasting friendships.
"As far as his education went," his family recalled, "it was mostly the school of hard knocks! And he was the best darn trucker and Harley enthusiast we knew."
Frank arrived in Alaska in the 1970s. He drove trucks for many companies including Chevron, Fisher Fuel, Columbus, CEM, Big State, Arctic Slope Regional Corp. and, most recently, TOTE.
His hobbies included Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Crown Royal and his fabulous motor home.
"Frank brought so much humor and laughter into our lives," his family wrote. "No one will ever forget him!
"This man embraced life and all of us more than you'll know. Let's never forget how funny he was."
Frank is survived by his companion and love, Christine Wilson; sons, Mark and Keith; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jacob and Karrie; sister Alice and family; very best friends, Dan and Deb Chido, Autrey and Judy, Bob and Louise, Jim and Linda, Jerry and Punkin and so many others, too many to mention. His Alaska family includes the Kingsleys, Mark, Jeff, Jan and Janice Andrews, Mike Lozano, and his "wussy dog," Jesse.
Donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Leukemia Foundation, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane, Anchorage 99503.

Christine,
What can we say? There are no words to describe how sad we are during this huge loss. Frank was bigger than life, such a huge presence in any group of people, and that smile...you could see it a mile away. We will all miss him, more than we can know at this time. We will miss the funny, funny, things he would say and the funny things he would do. We will miss his big 'ol teddy bear heart, even though he wanted us to think he was a really bad dude. He was the guy that everyone thought looked like he just stepped out of "Central Casting" when he was "Best Man" at our wedding 10 years ago. Yes, he had such a presence. A presence that we shall never ever forget. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever and ever. We loved him so...as we love you, and we shall miss him so...

When I first heard we lost Frank I was only stopped for a moment. I didn't get all misty and emotional, I smiled and started telling "Frank" stories right away. I will be honored to celebrate his life with you this weekend, because Frank celebrated life. If I get one 10th out of mine, that he got from his all too short years I will be exhaused. He worked strong, he played strong and he loved his family even stronger. I am so very happy for all the years we were blessed with Frank Duxbury on our side. If you need any help, please let me know.
