Gary Moore Obituary

Anchorage resident Gary James Moore, 66, died July 13, 2008, at his home after a four-year battle with melanoma. He was surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary, 11621 Old Seward Highway.
Mr. Moore was born July 2, 1942, in Caldwell, Idaho.
His family moved to Burns, Ore., when he was 5, and he graduated from Burns High School in 1961. He went on to complete a double major in math and physics from the College of Idaho, later receiving a master's in computer science from the University of Idaho.
Mr. Moore married Fran Keil in 1962 and they had three sons. The family moved to Anchorage in 1981 when he accepted a job with Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. He worked there until 1985. He then worked for Arco Alaska from 1985 until his retirement in 1999.
"He loved the challenge of fly fishing for salmon and joyfully spent each summer fishing for hours wherever the fish were in," his family said. "He spent considerable time teaching his grandchildren to fish, even letting them land their own catch. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting with his sons.
"Gary was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He took great care of his wife and family, providing us all with a safe, loving environment. He had the wonderful ability to be silly and had great patience with his grandchildren. He went out of his way to include them in his daily life through such simple things as taking them for walks or teaching them how to fish, even if it meant the big one got away. Our lives are better for having loved him and he is dearly missed."
He is survived by his wife, Fran; sons, Scott and Dwayne; grandchildren, Shannon, Mark and Heidi, all of Anchorage; sister, Kaye Sykes of Burns, Ore.; and brother, Joe Moore of Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Denali Hospice, 3935 Reka Drive, Anchorage 99508.
Arrangements are with Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home

Fran, I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Gary was a great friend and wonderful coworker. We worked together for years and had plenty of laughs to go along with our hard work. I have very fond memories of those days writing programs for the engineers. Also, I've been remembering the great parties we would have, usually at Marlene's house. Gary was a very wonderful person and I'm glad to say I knew him. I will miss him.

My prayers are with you in this time of loss. I have often thought of you and family over the years since the death of Gary, Jr. I was one of his good friends, worked together, and college. Mr. Moore is now in a peaceful place and both Gary and his father are looking out for us down here. Upon traveling south to the pennisula, I often talk to Gary and let him know that is still thought of often as will Mr. Moore.

Again, our prayers are with you and your family.
