George Evarts Obituary

Papa Ray" to his family and friends passed away peacefully in Medford, Oregon where he lived the past two years.

He was born in Salmon, Idaho. George moved to Oregon where he found and married his life long mate Patricia Lorraine Randolph (64 years).

In 1961 Ray packed up his family and drove to Alaska on vacation, bought a grocery store and stayed the next 50 years. In 1976 Ray moved the family to Homer where bought and built another grocery store, Kachemak Food cache and continuing today as Kachemak Wholesale. He loved his customers, especially his "Russian Friends".

A man of many talents - grocer, truck driver, country western musician, baker, meat cutter. He will be forever known for his 'Papa Rays' cookies and sing-along song.

Ray is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his children: Linda (Michael) Osif, Monte (Marcia) Evarts, Lorie (Bruce) Henderson, Marty (Fran) Evarts, Myles (Connie) Evarts, 18 grandkids and 36 great-grandkids. Wow - what a legacy he left.

Ray took one last road trip with family and friends to Salmon, Idaho where he was to rest next to his parents, C.K. and Mildred Evarts.

So many will miss him as he has touched so many lives. There will be a memorial celebration of Rays life sometime in the spring and will be announced in Homer. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.

He was a good business man. We had a moment of hard times, and he gave me unlimited credit to buy groceries until the hard time passed. I was honored to pay my debt back as promised. Without his kindness we would have felt the pinch. I will always be grateful. My blessing to his family.
