George Juliussen Obituary

George Samuel "Sam" Juliussen passed away at home in Garibaldi, Ore., on Feb. 14, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 4, 1950, in Kenai, Alaska, to George William "Sourdough" Juliussen and Elaine May Juliussen. Sam was the middle son of five boys. He is remembered as a Cook Inlet commercial gillnet fisherman and owner of a lodge at Chinitna Bay, Alaska. He was a hardworking carpenter, building and remodeling homes in Colorado, Wyoming, Alaska and the north coast of Oregon. He was a member of the Kenaitze Indian Tribe of the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska.
Sam inherited wilderness property at Chinitna Bay on Cook Inlet, Alaska, from his father, where he built a lodge and several cabins from 1983 to 1997. He continued to develop the property into the Chinitna Bay Alaska Wilderness Lodge and operated this business for several years, providing world class guide service, wilderness tours and lodging for anglers and families from all over the world. In 1998, Sam moved to Rockaway Beach, Ore., to be close to his son. In 1998, he sold the lodge and, along with his son, continued to travel there for many summers.
He loved dogs, the sound of rain on the roof at night and was an avid reader of mystery novels. We will miss his sourdough pancakes, oatmeal and raisin cookies and the best baked salmon in the world. He was a loving son, father and friend. Sam will be remembered for his time helping his neighbors, his patience, kindliness, tolerance and love. He was a good friend: generous, funny and selfless. We all loved him so.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, George.
He is survived by his mother, Elaine Juliussen; and brothers, Sagen (Annette), James (Patti), Ronald (Linda) and William, all of whom reside in the Anchorage, Alaska area. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins in the Anchorage and Kenai Peninsula areas. His beloved and only child, Samuel Alexander Juliussen and his wife Brittney, and his son's mother and friend, Paula Moran, still reside in Tillamook County, Ore.

I have many fond memories of Sam and little Sammy in the bay. My birthday was close to Sam's so we used to celebrate together on the beach in Chinitna. Sure will miss him. Trish from Chinitna Bay
