Harold Peters Obituary

Former Alaska resident Harold Kingston Peters, 77, died June 18, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Wash., after a brief illness.
A private family ceremony will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Seattle. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of one's choice. A celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date.
He was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Seattle to Kenneth Kingston and Ruth Janet (Potter). Growing up in West Seattle, his fondest memories were of scouting, which included counseling at Camp Parsons and exploring the Olympic Mountains. He also cherished the time he spent roaming the beaches and woods at his family's beloved "camp" on Camano Island. A 1948 graduate of West Seattle High School, he maintained a strong relationship with his former classmates and was proud to be a longtime member of the Monogram Club.
In 1952, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Shortly thereafter, he married the love of his life, Camille Peterson. This was the beginning of numerous adventures. Upon retiring from the Army, they returned to Seattle from Germany with the first two of their four children. King became a homebuilder and developer in Seattle. The completion of a large retirement community in White Center, Kingston Village, which he owned and managed for many years was the culmination of his career in the Evergreen State.
In 1974, he moved his family to Anchorage, where he became a successful real estate developer. He also explored and embraced all the wonders Alaska had to offer. In 1982, he and Camille purchased a classic yacht in the south of France and with their family, sailed it back to Seattle. Their four-month voyage provided a fount of anecdotes and stories for the years to come. Upon reaching home, they spent a year completely retrofitting their beloved Northwind. They lived their dream for the next 12 years, including a trip up the Inside Passage of Alaska to Kodiak Island.
After selling Northwind, they eventually settled in Bellingham, Wash., to be close to children and grandchildren.
"Kingston Peters was a living example of the West Point motto, "Duty, Honor, Country', words that he lived by and kept close to his heart throughout his life," his family wrote. "Although his death has left a huge hole in the lives of his family and friends, his faith assures us that he is now on the greatest adventure of his life!"
King was preceded in death by his parents and also by the tragic death of his son-in-law, Peter McDonald in June 2006 and Pete's "son," Wolfgang, in June 2007.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 55 years, Camille; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Allen Francisco of Poulsbo, Wash.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Karen Peters of Anchorage, and Kyle and Susan Peters of Seattle; and daughter, Kelli McDonald of Bellingham; grandchildren, Andrew Francisco, Sunny Peters, and Kameron and Kalen Peters will sorely miss their "Pops." His only great grandchild, Kwynci Shea Peters, brought him additional joy and he treasured every moment he was able to spend with her.
Arrangements are with Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Seattle.

Dear Camille, Kyle and Sue and all in Kingston's family:
How sad I have been since hearing of the sudden death of your beloved husband and father, Kingston! The memories of him and his lovely wife Camille have been flooding through my mind in these last days.

Your husband and father was a giant of a man--a great lover of people. He was very compassionate, tender and caring.

He played football at West Seattle High School with my big brother, Nello Michelotti and in the last several years, the two of them renewed their high school friendship. As my brother and his wife were invited to several open houses and parties at the Peters' home in Issaquah, I was also included as I was Nello's sister. How happy I was to be invited and enjoy the open hearts of King and Camille! At one party, the two of them had just moved into their new home there in Issaquah (there were still boxes sitting around the periphery of the different rooms). King said several times during that party, "An occasion like this (a landmark high school reunion) does not happen all the time. We need to take advantage of the day and visit with all of the out-of-state friends who have come a long way in order to attend the reunion." I could not believe it as it was quite a sacrifice for the two of them to open their home up in its "unfinished" state. That was the kind of man Kingston was--and his good wife, Camille, graciously welcomed us all into their new home!

The world is a lesser place now with the absence of Kingston Peters! The memory of this good man will linger with me all the days of my life.

May our Lord Jesus comfort all who mourn--especially you, Camille. May He be a solace to you as you enter the time of being a widow. My heart is broken for you. I cannot imagine the hurt and loss that you must feel now; however, you have the hope of being reunited with dear Kingston in the Kingdom of our Lord. I believe that the Lord is saying now to Kingston, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Hugs and kisses to you, Camille.
With love, Rita Michelotti

Kyle and Family,
We were deeply saddened to learn of "The King" leaving this earth but in the same breath we rejoice with the angels at his arrival in heaven. May the same hands of God who took him home take you in his arms and comfort you with His peace and love.
