Henry Powell Gallagher

1955 - 2016

Henry Powell Gallagher Jr., aka "Chip," age 61, died on Saturday, April 16, 2016, in Quito, Ecuador. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., to Henry "Hank" and Helen (Larkin) Gallagher on Feb. 27, 1955. From an early age he led an adventurous life and couldn't be held back. After graduating high school, he joined the Air Force at age 18, and was sent to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. After serving his time in the military, he went to Shiloh Youth Revival Centers Bible School (The Land) in Dexter, Ore., where he met his wife, Kathleen (Allen) Gallagher. His short time in Alaska left its mark, and they soon moved to Talkeetna, Alaska, where he began working for the Alaska Railroad. While raising six children he graduated from UAA with a BA in Criminal Justice, which led to employment for the State of Alaska Airport Police and Fire. He worked there for 26 years, retiring as Lieutenant in 2013. Chip was preceded in death by his parents; and grandchildren, Faith Ann and Charlie. Survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Sean (Beth) of Spokane, Wash., Powell (Sheena) of Eagle River, Alaska, Bryan (Brittany) of Anchorage, Eric of Anchorage, Gregory of Lafayette, La., and Kelcy (Gustavo) Paredes of Shell, Ecuador; grandkids, Connor, Joseph, Liam, Kaylee, Taylor, Brendan and Asher; and siblings, Gregory, Deb, Jay, Mark and Paul. He was a long time Downtown Soup Kitchen board member and organized and directed the downtown Slammin' Salmon Derby. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and brother, and as a man of God who was dedicated to serving the church and his community. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., at ChangePoint Church in Anchorage.
