Iris Shangin

Soldotna, Alaska, resident Iris Clare Shangin, 28, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2018, at home.
Viewing will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., on Friday, June 29, 2018, at Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church in Old Town Kenai, Alaska. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., on Friday at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Archpriest Thomas Andrew will officiate.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at the Soldotna Church of the Nazarene.
Iris was born on June 2, 1990, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Dennis and Leora Shangin. She grew up in Perryville, Alaska, until she was 8, then moved with the family to Soldotna. She graduated from Soldotna High School in 2008 and from Kenai Peninsula College in 2010 with a business degree. She worked at Creative Play & Preschools.
Iris was a member of the Russian Orthodox Church. She loved the outdoors, including hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing, long walks, road trips and much more.
Her family wrote: "Iris loved life, her family and friends. She will be remembered for her bubbly full-of-life personality."
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred and Effie Shangin; and grandfather, Alvin Leroy Tague.
Iris is survived by parents, Dennis and Leora Shangin of Soldotna; sister, Miranda L. Lind of Port Heiden, Alaska; brother, Leroy D. Shangin of Anchorage; sister, Denise E. Gilliam of Soldotna; brother, Dawson P. Shangin of Soldotna; nephews, Severin, Vince and Aiden; nieces, Anna, Candace and Mira; grandmother, Clara Kosbruk of Perryville, Alaska; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; her companion of 12 years, fiance, Jacob Hagedorn; his family, Harold and Shannon; his brothers, Joel, Cole and Abraham; his sisters, Corina, Edna and Corrie; and 18 nieces and nephews.
