We are so sorry to hear about Jackie's passing. We first met Jackie and Gib the first time at their homestead in Aniak back in 1992. We were paddling down the Kuskokwim river all the way to Bethel. We stopped at their homestead to chat and ask about the best place to pull out in Bethel.... "the best place to pull out from the river is HERE" - Jackie said. So we stayed a few days before heading back to Switzerland. We have tons of great memories of Jackie, Gib and the gorgeous homestead at the Kuskokwim river. We came back year after year and enjoyed their generosity, humor, and wits. Jackie was an excellent cook (among others) and we learned from her how to prepare salmon, caviar (and other stuff) for the winter. Another thing which comes to mind is her wondeful garden with flowers and vegetables. We spent countless hours pulling weed, building/fixing green houses, 'hunting' for lettuce, and enjoying the fresh harvest.
We love her art work immensely and are fortunate enough to have a few of her drawings and woodcuts in our home, reminding us on all the good times we had.

Our sincerest condolences to Jackie's family

our sincerest condolences to Jackie's family. Jackie and Gib kept a beautiful garden and yard across the river from Aniak and they were always happy to share gardening tips with anyone interested in gardening. Linda, Aniak

Jackie and Gib lived across the river, or, we lived across from them. Gib introduced us to the area, and Jackie and Gib took us in after our fire. We had many pleasant hours with Jackie, and enjoyed her after we came to Anchorage. She was a talented artist, and enjoyed expressing herself. Jane Niebergall, Aniak, Anchorage, AK

I am so sorry to hear about Jackie's death. I have so many memories of Jackie and Gib at their place across from Aniak. Stopping there was always a bright spot in trips to town. The hospitality, the laughter, the conversation, the nicest outhouse I've ever been in..... One year they lent me a boat so I could finish my dissertation fieldwork at a site upriver. They wouldn't take any payment, not even for gas. And then when finished, I got to spend a few days at their house. When I think of Jackie she is outside in her big garden on a beautiful, sunny day or sitting at the big window overlooking the Kuskokwim drinking coffee and laughing.
