We are so sorry to hear about Jackie's passing. We first met Jackie and Gib the first time at their homestead in Aniak back in 1992. We were paddling down the Kuskokwim river all the way to Bethel. We stopped at their homestead to chat and ask about the best place to pull out in Bethel.... "the best place to pull out from the river is HERE" - Jackie said. Jackie and Gib lived across the river, or, we lived across from them. Gib introduced us to the area, and Jackie and Gib took us in after our fire. I am so sorry to hear about Jackie's death. I have so many memories of Jackie and Gib at their place across from Aniak. Stopping there was always a bright spot in trips to town. The hospitality, the laughter, the conversation, the nicest outhouse I've ever been in..... One year they lent me a boat so I could finish my dissertation fieldwork at a site upriver.
