It's been 10 years, and a some months, since my best friend died. I came along about 10 months later. My cousin, Jamie. Thick as thieves, per my mother and my grandmother, we spent our childhood together, we walked home from school together, we played together. We made models together, we played music together. We lived next door to each other. Jamie, my best friend, I will never forget you. I miss you so much. Love, Randy.

My condolences and sympathy to all James's family, friends, and loved ones. Hope you don't mind if I reminisce a bit. I grew up in Wonder Park, just down the street from the Rearick's. James and I "went steady" -- for about a week if I remember correctly -- somewhere around 9th grade. (HE "broke up" with ME!). Of course we were just kids, just starting to become who we would turn out to be, and didn't even really know each other. We went our separate ways, but apparently both grew up to have common interests -- I also love music, gardening and wood working! I am pleased to learn from reading all the other comments that he enjoyed the companionship of so many who loved and respected him, and I pray they will find peace and comfort at this difficult time.

THIS BROTHER OF MINE
Let me tell you about this brother of mine…
This brother of mine was born December 11, 1953. His name is James Leslie Rearick. He was named after our father. James Lowell Rearick. His middle name comes from our great grandfather Leslie Aubrey Rearick. Leslie Aubrey Rearick died of a heart attack while traveling from Oakland to San Francisco to visit his daughter. This brother of mine had a heart attack.
This brother of mine was 59 years old.
He died on a Wednesday.
I cried on a Wednesday.
I cried on a Thursday.
I cried on a Friday.
And I cried on this day.
In my heart I will never stop crying.
Because I lost this brother of mine.
I have four big brothers. I'm lucky. They all push me around. They tell me what to think. They laugh at me. They love me. And I like it. They are funny. They are crude. They are flawed. They are perfect.
This brother of mine he Is a brother.
He Is a son.
He Is a husband.
He Is a grandson.
He Is a father.
He Is an uncle.
He Is a cousin.
He Is a nephew.
He Is a friend.
He Is an original.
This brother of mine has a family that loves him. He was not a saint, but he was a good man.
This brother of mine was one of seven. He was a big brother and a little brother. He was one of my four older brothers. He believed in me. He loved me. As a child he played with me, scared me, tickled me, wrestled with me, talked with me, was interested in me. He made me laugh and sometimes made my cry. He was a brother. This big brother did what big brothers do.
This brother of mine…he was a force to reckon with. He touched people. He changed people. He left his mark on a piece of the world. He loved music. He loved art. He loved building. He loved gardening. He loved wood working. He loved creating. He loved people. He loved his friends. He loved his family.
This brother of mine would help anybody that asked for help. He just required that you participate, try your best, and do exactly as he instructed.
This brother of mine was a student and he was a teacher. He was passionate. He was a philosopher. He was a thinker. He was a rebel. He was a friend. He was a brother.
This brother of mine gave me a love for music. He introduced me to great music like Santana, Jimi Hendrix, The Almond Brothers, The Moody Blues. I can not listen to these bands without thinking of this brother of mine.
I could wish that this brother of mine had one more day on this earth, but the fact is, he lived his days the way he wanted. He was sometimes argumentative, difficult, and grumpy. But he was always caring, loving, and honest. He is one of the few people I know that could argue and fight with you but still accept you as a friend and love you for who you are and what you believe.
This brother of mine….
He Is awesome.
He Is the bomb.
He Is sick.
He Is tight.
He Is groovy.
He Is the coolest.
He Is an original
This brother of mine loved his nieces, nephews, and younger cousins. He always took the time to connect with them. He loved them. He was proud of them. He knows that they are great.
This brother of mine will be welcomed by our great grandfather Leslie Aubrey Rearick, our grandfather James Henry Rearick, our father James Lowell Rearick, our aunts and uncles, nephews and his friends that have gone before him. This brother of mine was not afraid to die. He knew good things were in store. He is content. He is happy.
He strived for perfection in himself but accepted imperfection in others. This brother of mine did not have the word “can't” in his vocabulary. He could and he did. He saw and he wondered. He cared…and he loved.
This brother of mine I didn't see every day when he was here, but now that he is gone…
this brother of mine I'll miss every day.
This world is a better place for him being here. This brother of mine will be missed.
This brother of mine is at peace.
Keep it real brother. Keep rockin' the boat, but more importantly…just keep rockin'.
This brother of mine. This brother of ours.
This friend of ours.
I love you,
This brother of yours…Richard

only the good die young! And so it is another good man die's too young. I remember when Jim was the dispatcher & we had our longshore x-mas party at the captain cook & jim told me how he respected me because I would not take dispatches on some Sundays because of my commitment to my softball team; & how I took time to enjoy life outside of work. He showed me a side of him I had yet not known. As we all know, jim played the tough guy, at least at work but there was a heart of gold under neath that gruff personia!! He took our seriously & I am going to miss a MAN I worked with, respected. & loved for going on near 30 years!!! My sincere condolences to jim's wife & children whom he spoke of with great pride!! never forgotten in this heart!!!

I remember the Rearick family home well, especially fun to stop there to Trick or Treat with Mrs. Rearick always chatting to each of us, and attended school with Gail. With such good memories of your family, I add my sincerest sympathy and condolences to all family members. May your good memories of him give you comfort to balance the sorrow. God gave us memory to be able to enjoy June roses even in December. May your memories of a lifetime with him stay fresh to keep him always near to comfort you.

I met Jim through Eric Baldwin, Eric wanted me to play bass up in Eagle River, we walked in,set up our stuff and played for several hours before I ever actually introduced myself to Jim, we became friends after that and played many times together, he was always funny and loved to play guitar, I'll miss him and his playing, farewell my friend and leader of the SHUT UP and PLAY BAND......
