Joseph Trantham Obituary

Joseph Aaron Michael Kivik Trantham was born on February 29, 1992 in Anchorage, Alaska to lifelong Alaskans Joe and Vedra Trantham.

Vedra, his mother, says that the moment he was born she know no greater love and truly realized that there must be a God to have created such perfection.

Joey, as he was known to family and friends, was a gentle and kindhearted person. He knew how to make people smile, even when they didn't want to. A natural prankster, he had a quick wit with great comebacks, always speaking his mind with a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face.

Family and friends were very important to Joey. When he wasn't hard at work, he could often be found with siblings, cousins, and other family members, telling tall tales that everyone would believe. He had many friends, and was willing to do anything for anyone. He always held his Elders in high regard, taking the time to visit with them and listen to their stories.

As a young man, Joey enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting and camping. He was also very passionate about his cars, gaming (Call of Duty, Halo), and music.

Joey graduated from the Anchorage Youth Academy. He completed the Crossing Program which he was particularly proud of. He worked in maintenance at the Anchorage Downtown Partnership, and it was his dream to become a mechanic.

Joey is survived by his mother and stepfather Vedra and Matthew Bechtol; his father and stepmother Joe and Louisa Trantham; his brothers Jason and Matthew; his sisters Melissa, Madison and Chanelle; his great grandparents Mary Craig, Mary Bindara and David Trantham; his grandparents Jean Trantham, John and Carol Craig; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16th, in Anchorage at the Muldoon Baptist Church starting at 1:00pm. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 18th, in Copper Center at the Kluti-Kaah Memorial Hall - the service is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm.

Joseph was an organ donor and gave the gift of life to others. Donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House (5130 40th Ave NE; Seattle, WA 98105). Arrangements were entrusted to the Legacy Funeral Home, Kehl's Chapel.

That is exactly how I remember Joey. Never a moment of sorrow with him, just the biggest smile that no one else could compete with. I hadn't seen Joey in probably 2 years and it's with great regret that it has been that long. But I am so glad I got to know him. Him and his cousins would always come visit us, and there was never a dull minute when Joey was around. He was always telling jokes, riding 4 wheelers or snowmachines with us, or whatever came to mind. He was a great kid. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. You live in our hearts Joey.

Dear Joey,

Its not like you were my bestfriend or anything and its not like we were really close. I just want people to remember that bad stuff happens its not like anyone deserves it. It just happens and in a unfair world thus is life but how would you understand the good if you didn't feel the bad. One thing I take from Joseph is that I'm not in this world to survive... I didn't come here to get by, I came here to live, I came to be happy and Joey you made alot of people happy.

Live and be happy... I know its easier said then done but I'm sure he'd want that.

Vedra, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I remember holding Joey as a baby and watching how proud you were of him, and all your children, over the years. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family.

I am so lucky I got to see you Wednesday afternoon, even though it was brief. We did our usual catching up, laughing, and trying to figure it all out. If I had known that would be my last hug and kiss from you I would have held you a little longer. My darling nephew, enjoy your wings, now you can truly fly. Love, Aunty
