Judith Conner Obituary

Anchorage resident Judith Andrea Conner, 67, died May 24, 2008, at her Big Lake home of natural causes
A celebration of life will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Tanglewood Lakes chalet, 11801 Brayton Drive.
Judy was born June 4, 1940, in Chenoot, Kan., and moved to Alaska when she was only a few months old.
Her father worked for the Federal Aviation Administration and as a result, Judy spent her very early years in Northway and Big Delta. Her brother, Eric, remembers hearing stories of Judy and her father traveling extensively throughout rural Alaska in the early '40s. Judy moved to Anchorage around 1943, and her family homesteaded on the outskirts of town, which is now the Klatt area. Judy attended Anchorage High School in the late 1950s and married Larry Conner at age 17. She retired from the Anchorage School District in the '80s.
Judy enjoyed many years singing with the Sweet Adelines and having fun with the Rotten Club. She was always involved with charity golf events and anywhere someone needed a helping hand. She loved crocheting afghans for friends and family, working crossword puzzles, gardening and creating stained glass projects.
Judy's family and friends remember her as "Bigger than Life" and a "Mom" to dozens of people. Her family writes: "She was a friend to everyone and 'woke up the room' when she walked in the door. Judy adored her grandchildren and thought the sun rose and set on her boys. Summer was always her favorite time of year, and she loved spending all her free time at her home in Big Lake. Her laughter and beautiful smile will be missed, and her huge heart will always be remembered.
She is survived by her brothers, Eric of Bronx, N.Y., James of Juneau, and Karl of Florida; sisters, Willene of Oregon and Phyllis of Missouri; many "adopted" sisters of Anchorage; son, Michael Conner of Anchorage; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Lisa Conner of Anchorage and James and Cyndi Conner of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Breann, Amanda, Austin, Kody, Casey, Aaron and Allyson of Anchorage.

Dan, Mike and Jim,

The Holzenberg family send their heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother, our half-sister, Judy Conner. Judy was a huge and loving presence in all our lives when we lived in Alaska, and in his recent trips back home brother Eric is especially glad he was able to get reacquainted with Judy, her kids, and grand-kids. She will be in our hearts and memories always.

Mike, Jim, Dan and Family,

Your mother truly could light up a room when she walked in. She always had a big smile on her face and a "HELLO" for everyone. She had a laugh, that when you heard it you laughed with her, even if you didn't know what the joke was. I am so sorry for your loss. Judy will truly be missed by everyone that knew her.

DEAR Mike, Dan and Jim...Judy was like a second mom too me....like she was for so many people, she had the best laugh and the warmest heart of anyone, I am trully blessed to have had her be a part of my life when I was younger, she was also one of mothers best friends. (Gerry Hunt) I'll never forget the time she busted me and Adriana Pratt (You know Adriana, she married Scott Willis) from skipping school at McDonalds...after she gave us a quick lecture then made us buy her coffee to sware her secrecy. I don't think she ever told my mom. I grieve for your loss and rejoice in knowing I knew someone so incredibly special..she made the world a better place for all who knew her....we will all miss her.
God Bless you and your family.

Judy Conner was, indeed, larger than life and always lit up a room with her presence. She loved her family with a passion and her friends unconditionally. She was the perfect "partner in crime", always ready and willing to try anything. Together we crashed our kids parties at Pt. Waronzof, giggled all night while trying to sleep in my Ford Escort during our adventure to Victoria BC.,donned toy army helmets to fight "the battle of the ground moles" in my Seattle yard, sewed "stripper" costumes and went club to club in Seattle selling and visiting the girls, fell off our bikes almost breaking our necks but saving the bottle of scotch. It's hard to believe Thurs. was the last time I'll pick up the phone and hear "Hey Jude, it's me, when ya coming up?" God must need alot of love and laughter sitting at his right hand. He could not have chosen better, altho we will suffer. I love ya, kid!

Dan, Mike and Jim,
When you love with all you have,
You grieve with all you are.

Brad and I have so many great memories of "Mom" or, as we sometimes addressed her... Mrs. "C". Her hospitality was second to none and she was truly gracious to all of us, that enjoyed a party (or two) in her home.
We will remember her smile and her laughter...
And we will grieve the loss of a truly wonderful and loving lady.
