Kayla Rodasti-VanOordt Obituary

Kayla was born in Houston, Texas, and spent her early childhood with her grandmother, Lynda Sue Newman. At 15, she moved to Alaska to be with her mother, Katherine Aubry-Robbins. She graduated in 2003 from Polaris K-12 in Anchorage, Alaska. She lived for a brief time in Boise, Idaho, with the father of her children, Chuck Wood; another beautiful soul in her story. Her daughter Isabelle was born there, and all of them were lovingly looked over by Mike and Shelly Chrisman. She was an incredible being. She had rough patches, but never let them keep her down. She always moved forward. Her outward beauty was rivaled only by the beauty of her soul. She was that rare, perfect combination of strong and glamorous. She looked as good in brown Xtra Tufs as she did in a little black dress. She literally sparkled. She couldn't carry a tune for love or money, but she played the piano and violin. She had a wicked sense of humor and could laugh at even the worst things in life. She was an amazing artist, incredible mother, loving daughter, sister, wife and a true and steadfast friend. A celebration of her life was held on Dec. 2, 2014, in Homer, Alaska. Her family was touched and humbled by the outpouring of love and affection that night. They were shown things about her through others that they never before saw. The brightest souls in her galaxy were her daughters, Isabelle Sue Wood and Zoe Matilda Wood. She was fortunate enough to have found great love in her life and was married to Bob Van Oordt in 2012. She would want us to come together and let our memories carry us across this ocean of grief we've never navigated before, and cannot cross alone. The calm and healing of the shore is there, we can't see it yet, but we will. Kayla is survived by her children, Isabelle Sue Wood and Zoe Matilda Wood; husband, Bob Van Oordt; and mother, Katherine Aubry-Robbins, all of Homer, Alaska; her sister, Sadie Florence Robbins of Anchorage, Alaska; grandmother, Lynda Newman of Anniston, Ala.; grandparents, Donald and Florentina Aubry; and her aunt, Donna Sue Spratling all of Flowery Branch, Ga. In lieu of flowers a Savings Trust for her daughters may be contributed to at any Wells Fargo. Charles Wood, account 6413606234.

I had not seen Kayla since I graduated from Polar in 2002, but she recognized me right away when she saw me in line behind her and her two beautiful babies at Carrs in Anchorage. We must've talked for a good 20-25 minutes. A conversation carried over long after we had both checked out. She was bright, beautiful, happy, and a loving mother. She sent me a friend request on Facebook just a few minutes after we ended our conversation in the store. I was shocked, saddened, and just amazed that she had been taken, but was extremely thankful her babies weren't taken too, since I heard the original plan was for them to be traveling with her. The next time I saw my nieces I hugged them even longer than I usually do.
Kayla was such a beautiful person who seemed to really care about people in general, and take an interest in the lives of the people around her. I posted the news to the Polaris Facebook as soon as I heard of the tragic accident and many were very sad that such a beautiful young woman, mother, daughter, wife, and friend was taken so young. I know she will watch over and protect her babies the rest of their lives.
I hope that all her family, friends, and others who knew her well are finding ways to go on and find solace. She will certainly not be easily forgotten when so many who knew her certainly have a void she once filled.

I just learned from my son, Connor, ab out Kayla. When they were in high school they were friends who helped each other survive Chugiak high school! They stayed in touch and, oddly, she also became good friends at Polaris, with his now wife, Celeste. Small world of folks who were lucky to know her.
I have fond memories of her sweet energy. I am so sorry for your loss. Karla Huntington
