Kristopher Nuttall Obituary

Longtime Alaska resident, Kristopher Nuttall, 53, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska. A celebration of Kristopher's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at the Anchorage Funeral Home, 1800 Dare Ave. in Anchorage. Military honors will be performed by the JBER Honor Guard Team. Kris was born on Aug. 19, 1961, to Leonard Wilkins Nuttall Jr. and E. Laurie (Borden) in Fort Ord, Calif. He was proud of his military service and he was honorably discharged on Oct. 25, 1984. Kris lived in Anchorage for approximately 30 years. He loved his work at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management as a Records Librarian for the last 27 years. He was a kind, intelligent and talented man with a sense of humor, incredible integrity, a remarkable work ethic and an amazing well of creativity. Kris was a writer, whale watcher, sports devotee and ardent follower of politics. Kris loved a good civil debate and he loved being an Alaskan. The state fair was one of his favorite events, as was the Iditarod. During his battle with cancer, Kris was supported by so many friends and was touched by their love and generosity. He will be missed by them, as well as by his numerous Scrabble and Words with Friends opponents, to whom he showed no mercy. Please enjoy a plate of spaghetti, a Wienerschnitzel hot dog or an episode of "Breaking Bad" in his honor. He will be missed more than he could have known. Kris is survived by his beloved daughter and son in-law, Angel Nuttall and Nicholas Maloney; and most of all his future grandchild, whom he was so looking forward to meeting; mother, Laurie Funetes; father and stepmother, Len Nuttall and Meg Lamey; and sisters, Laura Lee McKay and Elizabeth Tayco. Arrangements were cared for by the Anchorage Funeral Home. Please visit Kris's obituary and online guestbook at www.AlaskanFuneral.com.

Kris was one of the good guys. I worked with Kris at MMS for a number of years. Kris was always ready to help when help was needed, always with a good attitude, a smile, and frequently a Kris witticism for the situation. Kris will be missed by many. My condolences to the family and friends.

Chris was a very special person and he will be greatly missed. We worked together for many years in a government office in Alaska. I was actually his supervisor but it never seemed that way. We were more like good friends. He never had a bad day at the office instead always
upbeat smiling a joke for someone. He was an authority on the movies. If you needed a movie recommendation for the weekend you went to Kris He loved his daughter and life. If there is anything going on out there in the big game I know Kris will be there.

I first met Kris in our Jr. year of high school in Leavenworth KS. We played checkers on the way to school. I will always remember us dancing a the Jr/Sr prom. My deepest sympathy to his family.

My deepest sympathy to Kris' family. His good nature, cheerfulness, infallible kindness always made him a pleasure to be around. Contact with him made the day a better one. I'm so very sorry that he never got to see his grandchild, whom I know he would have doted on and treasured as he treasured his daughter. Condolences to all in his family. A very fine person has passed.

Kris was my Facebook friend and a gentlemanly but ruthless Scrabble opponent. I admired the courage and good humor with which he faced his illness; he was always engaged and enthusiastic about life. I will miss him, and my heart goes out to his loved ones.

What a shocker. The older I've gotten the more I reflect upon the past and with each time I flash on those early days at the old blue house on Windermere and what a dear sweet child our "Little Krisaber" was. My heart felt sympathy to Sis and all the immediate family members along with the several dear friends that Kris had gotten to know in Alaska. We do have so many fond memories to reflect upon. You will be in my heart forever and the next dozen Der Wienerschnitzel chili dogs I dive into on my return trip to Denver, Vegas or CA I will think of you! God Bless to all, Uncle Bruce

My sympathy to Kris' family and friends. While I didn't know him personally, I do know he was deeply loved by his sister Liz who spoke of him fondly and often.

I only knew Kris through Facebook, but he seemed to be such an amiable, funny, and courageous man. (And a very intimidating Scrabble opponent!) My thoughts are with you all.

Kris met me at the door and signed me in for my job interview. He ordered lunch for a small group of fellow co-workers almost every Friday for the last several years. He bought a book I wrote and gave it a nice review on his weekly review mail/reminder to fill out our time sheets. I'll miss him.

I'll be thinking of Kris for years to come. Kris was always willing (even seemingly happy) to prepare the emergency paperwork needed to get teams of government volunteers away from their desks and into a Twin Otter airplane flying over the Alaskan Beaufort Sea. The primary mission of our Bowhead Whale Aerial Survey Project was to monitor the fall migrations of bowhead and beluga whales past offshore oil and gas industry activities. Kris was invaluable by spending the most fall tours of duty of any Data Recorder and extending his stay up north whenever observers had to return early to Anchorage for family and other reasons.
Kris and I particularly enjoyed playing cutthroat cribbage in Deadhorse during offshore storms and over lunches at the MMS office building. He often joined me and my wife Ann for Thanksgiving Day football (Kris brought beer) followed by turkey dinners (Kris brought lime Jello). In recent years we continued old rivalries by playing Words with Friends online.
Somewhere I have a copy of a neat short story that Kris wrote. Also a video of our aerial survey team with Kris singing some stupid team song he wrote for us.

Over the years at Minerals Management Service, I had many short and long, but always fun, conversations with Kris on a variety of subjects. He was a pleasure to work with and I am sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts are with those closest to Kris.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kris's family and friends at this time of grief. I worked with Kris for the past five years at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. He was a pleasure to work with, a valuable coworker, and insightful. Kris shared an obvious zest for life; this was evident in his power of observation, his attention to detail, and compassion for others, all qualities useful to accomplish our work and beyond. Certainly I will miss our Tuesday morning quarterback meetings, and our conversations that went beyond his short commentaries on movies and television. God Bless you Kris, my life is richer because of the time we spent. For his family and friends, may your memories of Kris bring you comfort.

Briefly know, Kris enjoyed a fine wit driven by a brilliant mind that we at work enjoyed greatly - each in our own way will miss him.

Peace is with you Kris.

Though I only had the privilege of working with Kris for less than 2 years, his spirit will remain in my heart. He was always smiling, helpful and happy to help in any way he could. It was delightful to read his reviews of shows and movies - always with that perfect mix of humor and facts. We were so excited to see him back at work recently, which it seems was our opportunity to let him know how happy were were to have him in our lives. God Bless, Kris.
