Laura Kayoukluk Obituary

Laura "Totsie" Kayoukluk (Panialuk), age 56, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016, with her family by her side at Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born to the late Lawrence and Laura Kayoukluk on Sept. 24, 1959, in Shaktoolik, Alaska. She was one of 11 children. She attended grade school in Shaktoolik and Covenant High in Unalakleet, Alaska, and later worked at The Nome Nugget. Laura loved subsistence gathering and traveling all over Alaska, occasionally returning to Unalakleet to spend summers and winters. She will be remembered in many different ways, but especially for always making others laugh. Family and friends were Laura's heart and happiness. She raised three children between Unalakleet and Anchorage. Her family would like to express the love she had for Todd Sagmo, whom she is reunited with. They spent many years together camping and fishing, among many other adventures. She is preceded in death by sisters, Sharon Negron, and Gloria Kayoukluk. Her family would also like to recognize her good friend, Steve, for always being there for her. She is survived by Les Kayoukluk, Edward Kayoukluk and Stacy Ivanoff. Funeral services are pending for Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 1 p.m., at the First Covenant Church. Please contact her son, Edward Kayoukluk, at 444-6100 for further details.

My dear sister. As a child I held you in my arms until you wriggled to play. You were quiet, introspective and liked fun. You also exasperated me with your strong will to be independent. You never felt sorry for yourself although you were losing your sight. I grieved for the loss of your sight but that didn't keep you in one place. It was always a pleasure to laugh with you. I will miss you.
