Leslie DeVoe Obituary

Leslie Mone DeVoe was born on Jan. 24, 1955, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Mr. Henry and Margerat DeVoe. At the age of 2, he moved with his mother to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he attended school. Mr. DeVoe left school and became a member of the Operators Union. He worked on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline and the Valdez oil spill. He also worked for many years for Dr. Parker Janitorial Service. Leslie attended St. John Baptist Church and there, at a young age, accepted Christ in his life. Leslie always believed that a kind word could do wonders. He would help anyone he could to a place to stay and a meal to eat. Leslie enjoyed barbecues and telling a good story. His love for God and gentle laughter will be missed. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margerat Kelly; his brother, Frank E. Corley; and his companion of 16 years, Zonyua Robinson, whom he recently lost. He is survived by his sons, Donteh, Sergio and Savon; his brother, Henry; niece, Danielle; nephews, Ettiene and Oniree DeVoe; and his grandchildren, Lydonia, Donteh II, Simeon, DaVon, Malachi, Akeve, Tayon and Amiya. He also leaves behind a host of great-grandnieces and nephews; extended family; the Fraziers, Wrights and Lynchs; and Karen J. Frazier, his lifelong love and friend. Please join us for services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Legacy Witzleben Chapel, located at 1707 South Bragaw Street, Anchorage, AK 99508. Arrangements entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes. Uncle Les I was so shocked to hear about your passing. You were always full of life I will always remember the good times we had how you cared for us all you weren't just my uncle but another Dad. I say to you heaven has gained another Angel now you are resting with Grandma Margaret and uncle Frank my heart rejoices you all are reunited once again. I only wish I could have said a final good bye but God knows best. When I think of you I always remember your smile and the cowboy hat you wore and how you reference yourself as the " Buffalo Soldier" now all I have is the memories and photo's but you truly will not be forgotten. R.I.P I love you dearly. Your niece Danielle
