Louis Bennett Obituary

Lou Bennett lost a short term battle with cancer on Nov. 13, 2014. He passed peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Hazel, at his side. He was 65 years young. Louis Eugene Bennett was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on March 23, 1949, to Louis K. and Jeanne H. Bennett. Lou served his country with honor during the Vietnam War, serving as a 62J20 "General Construction Machine Operator", building roads from Thailand to Vietnam. During his enlistment, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device and the U.S. Army Marksmanship Medal with the M14 Rifle. Lou and Hazel met originally at Sparkey's Bar in Philadelphia, over 25 years ago and began their life and adventure together from there. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska, on March 31, 1992. During his time in Alaska, he worked for Conoco Phillips for over 16 years and, most recently, worked for the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Clinic. Lou held a Lifetime Membership with the VFW, AmVet Post 49 and the NRA, he was also a longtime member of the Eagles Aerie #4207. He loved to watch his Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies. Lou loved to go camping with his wife and friends and cooking for his family. Lou was preceded in death by his mother; father; and brother, Craig Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; his daughters, Renee Rangel, Kimberly Graber and Melissa Bennett; several grandchildren; and his brother, Gary Bennett. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. at AmVet Post 49, located on the Old Seward Hwy. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
