Lynn Langfield Obituary

Anchorage resident Lynn Stanley Langfield Jr., 78, died Dec. 3, 2009, at Linda Vista Nursing Facility in Ashland, Ore., of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Burial will take place at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in the late spring.

Lynn was born April 27, 1931, in Alturas, Calif. He attended Watsonville High School in Watsonville, Calif.

His family wrote: "Lynn joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and married his wife Marilla in February 1954 and raised three children. He was a photojournalist for the Stars and Stripes and served in Korea, Germany, and South Carolina. Lynn's job took him around the world where he took pictures of the U.S. presidents and many famous people such as Elvis Presley. He received many trophies, awards, and certificates for his work. He was truly a professional at photography. Lynn, his wife, and their three children were stationed in Alaska in 1967. They fell in love with Alaska and purchased real estate. They made Anchorage their home when he retired from the USAF in 1971" as a master sergeant.

Lynn then worked as chief photographer at Fort Richardson until retiring in 1987.

His hobbies include photography, family and religion. Lynn was an active member of the Church of Christ Templot. He also was on the board of directors of the Anchorage React Club, Kiwanis, Anchorage Senior Center and NARFE.

"Lynn was very generous and unselfish, well liked by everyone, and always willing to help," his family wrote. "He always had a story to tell about his career and life experiences. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him."

He is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Warrick and Julie Waites, both of Anchorage; sister, Willa Frey of Fairbanks; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilla Langfield; son, Shea K. Langfield; and brother, Weldon Langfield.

Arrangements are with Legacy Funeral Homes and Cremation Services' Witzleben Bragaw Chapel.
