Malachi Shields Obituary

Malachi Aurelius Shields, infant, died due to complications in pregnancy Oct. 8, 2008, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Viewing and services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. A service and potlatch will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Chitina Indian Village Hall in Chitina. Remains will stay with the parents.
Malachi and his family are members of Kenny Lake Church.
His family wrote: "Our family anticipated with great joy the day our little Malachi would come. Never would we have been prepared to face the loss of our precious son we had awaited for so long. We are comforted to know that his sweet soul is looking over all of us now with all the love of God embracing him. We chose his name with love in our hearts (Malachi meaning "angelic," Aurelius meaning "golden son.") He weighed 4 pounds 14 ounces and was 18 inches long. Malachi is the mirror image of his Dad from his sweet face to his baby feet with blue eyes and blondish brown curly hair. God blessed his precious soul. His angelic wings carried him straight to heaven. We see him embracing God's love, dancing with angels, playing in fields of golden grass, with stars and rainbows as his playground. Malachi's brothers and sisters are all dedicated Christians and know their baby brother is amongst God's angels and in God's eternal love. Our little angel will long be missed and forever be in our hearts."
Malachi is survived by his father, Robert Shields of Chitina; mother, Jewelz (Mahle) Shields; brothers, Anthony Mahle, Wesley Mahle and Austin Mahle; sisters, Dakota Mahle, Anastasia Shields and Aiyana Shields; grandfathers, Gerald A. Mahle Sr. and Phillip Shields Sr.; grandmothers, Patricia Thompkins and Ella Mahle; aunties, Jodi Mahle, Katrina Shields, Amy Shields and Amber Ashenfelter; uncles, Jason Ashenfelter, Phillip Shields Jr., Gerald Mahle Jr., Jerry Steffensen, Henry Iverson and Shaun Shields; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Clarence Mahle; great-grandmother, Ella Ring; great-grandmother, Janet Ashenfelter; grandmother, Sharon Ashenfelter; aunt, Alice M. Mahle; uncle, Beep John Billum; auntie, Rochel Fenty; great-grandfather, Robert Fairchild; and cousins, Tammy Milhous and Maggie Combs.

Some souls pass through this lifetime like a gentle summer rain, They touch our hearts and return to heaven once again.

Even as we mourn this loss, we know within our hearts that those we love are never really gone.

Jesus said: Let the children come to me.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.
And Maggie is taking care of him for you. Until you meet him again at heavens gate.

Love, Aunt Valina & Uncle Richard
