My Dear Brother, I have enjoyed the messages from your friends and family, so I will share some words, more for our collective consolation than for you. You are beyond the earthly confines that we all still occupy. All of the loving, complimentary words attest to the life well-lived that was yours. What a blessing beyond words that we were able to catch up on life during your last months on this earth. I will cherish those early morning calls forever. You were the closest thing I had for a father for all of the years of my life. I could note hundreds of times that you were there to uplift, encourage, help, and love me. I will miss and love you until my dying day. You were a Giver and the very spirit of Generosity. After a fairly long life myself, I feel that is the highest compliment that a person can earn. And so very talented in so many ways. You expressed some regret in not pursuing other career paths, but you have left behind beautiful works that are a testament to your hard work and creativity. And what better occupation than following after the Great Carpenter, Himself. You are one of those people that others describe as "larger than life", and it is still unthinkable that you have left us too soon. You always said that you would "live fast, and die young." I never wanted to accept that, but you were prophetic and right. I did not deserve such a wonderful brother, but I will always adore you.

My darling Michael - it will be a year this week since I lost you. The pain in my heart continues and How can I say how much I loved you and how empty my life is? I think about you EVERY day and my tears are constantly flowing. How I wish that I would have saved your voice mails from "your husband" so I could hear your voice. I hope you are at peace and without pain. I will love you forever my darling
I only hope that I have done the right thing for our plans for the future - which we will never be able to share together.
I love you and miss you beyond any words that can be scribed.

Michael, you were an inspiration to all who ever knew you no matter how fleeting the acquaintance. To those of us who have known you since you were a young boy, riding Pixie bareback through the Florida sand mines, racing your Mother's Buick on Jax Beach, and as the toughest school bus monitor in history-- you could NEVER be forgotten. Tender hearted forever, tough exterior and protector of your family. We miss you every day, the Smitty's, O'Grady's, Ronnie Lane's, and your beloved furry friends... Pixie, Freckles, Colors, Smack and Layla. The rabbits, horses, dogs and cats- you always had such love in your heart. Like most of us, there were many loves, young, first love not the least of these-- I will never forget you. JH

"Only in the agony of parting do we look into the depths of love." ~ George Eliot
We have realized this all too well. My heartfelt condolences to the love-of-his life Jamie, beloved children Dana, Cody and all their loved ones. Michael has left us much too soon, and will truly be missed -- not only for his gifted carpentry skills that he lent to us all, but for his friendship and caring. Continue to be strong and press on in his memory - he wouldn't have it any other way.
Best regards,
Lorrie

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Michael - Social butterfly that you always were, you can't imagine how many friends gathered for your Celebration of Life. Maynard took care of arranging everything. I just wish it would have been for your birthday, or our 36th anniversary, ANYTHING other than bidding you good-bye.
You were my morning, noon and night and I love you so much. I bet you miss your Kindle, but Garrett is making good use of it.
Our sons, Cody and Jason; daughter Dana, and your sister, Sheila, have given me and each other support and strength even while their own hearts were breaking.
You would be so proud seeing them "step up to the plate", as you used to say. Our friends and co-workers have amazed me with their out-pouring of love and encouragement.
I don't think I will ever understand why you left me - but I did everything that you always told me you wanted. I love you!!!!

Jamie - very dificult to believe that Mike is no longer around - he was a "good mate" - my favorite story is from the Komi spill when Mike built a dam to hold back the oil - he then set about cleaning it by removing oil, shrubs, trees and anything and everything that had oil on it - whe he had done there was one solitary tree left in the middle of the former oil lake - I asked Mike why he had left that ? - without a thought and a straight face he said "It wasn't in my way" snd he walked off - always an environmentalist to the core!!!
He will be missed.

Jamie & Family,
Michael was a big part of my daily dog walk, when I would pass his house he would always be out on his deck and smile, wave, and speak to me and the pups. Abby would always let him know we were out there, and then he would come out to offer a joke, fish or just a hi how are you. Michael and Jamie have been part of our little neighborhood family that we enjoy sharing our lives with. We will miss you Michael but we will never forget you. We have Jamie wrapped in the love of the hood so rest in peace.

Jamie and Family,
I will never forget the look on Michael's face when Ms Abby, ever so eager to be with him, jumped out the window of my Explorer, flew into the air and landed on the pavement at Michael's feet. I had taken her for the weekend while you both were on the “Yes Deere” out of Whittier. Michael and I thought for sure she had hurt those little legs but she was fine and only had a scrap on her chin.
And Jamie, I won't forget the look on your face (again with Ms Abby in my car) when Abby had her head out the window and accidently put her paw on the windows up button. My quick thinking saved the day when I grabbed her collar. And yes, I have the windows lock on at all times.
Michael was a good friend and teacher to my brother, Jay. With Michael being a master of his trade, Jay knew that he'd ‘better get it right' before Michael's inspection. Michael must have approved of Jay's work at some point because Michael eventually referred to Jay as his Executive Assistant!
We love you and your family. Please know that we are here for you.

Jamie & Family,
We are so sorry for your loss and feel many regrets that we are not there to hug and comfort you. We loved Michael and will miss him terribly. I'll never forget some of his compliments after dinner. My favorite, of course, was "I could pour that shitake mushroom sauce all over my dessert!" He really knew his way to a gal's heart.
Bless you all.

Mr. Bennett (too much respect to call him Michael), is one of my best and longest friend's (Cody) father. I can recall a number of great times I shared with Mr. Bennett and his family.
Mr. Bennett thank you for all the free boat rides and fishing trips...pretty sure I still owe you a King Lure that I snagged in the Little Su on like my second cast...my bad! And, thank you for letting me back in your house after Cody and I would stay up all hours of the night down stairs...some nights we heard you leaving for work! That was usually a good clue for us to wrap things up and go to bed (5am).
Your family is what it is because of you...and many times I felt like a part of the family, thank you!
Mrs. Bennett, Dana, Cody, Todd, and G...I pray that God will bring you the peace that only He can bring, give you comfort when you are hurting as He is our healer, and joy eachday held in the memories of a great Husband, Father, and Friend.
Love & Blessings....T

Mike,
I'm sorry that time and distance came between us. But I never stopped thinking of you Jamie, Dana and Cody. Long ago new to Alaska and alone, you took me in, first as employee soon friend and family member. Those were some great times. Always will remember the camping trip to Chitna, fishing, picking mushrooms and shooting rabbits. We lived off the land, I think the kids would rather had hot dogs though.
I will see you again my friend.
