Michael "Mick" Nelson

1959 - 2017

Michael "Mick" Nelson, 57, passed away on June 30, 2017, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born in Bremerton, Wash., to parents Robert and Alice "Boots" Nelson. He had eight siblings. When he was about 4 years old, they moved to El Paso, Texas, where he went to school - finishing high school early.
Right after high school he followed his sister, Nancy, to Dallas, Texas, and got started in the printing business. Working at Quik Print in downtown Dallas eventually allowed him the opportunity to move to Anchorage, Alaska, and buy his own print shop - Quik Print Printing in Anchorage.
This move spoke to Mick's adventurous spirit. Friends and family followed Mick from Texas to Alaska. And, while they came and went, Mick stayed. Alaska was his forever home. And, his playground was the Kenai Peninsula. Keeping his boat on the Kenai River assured lots of salmon caught over the years.
Mick also enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzle, reading, collecting classic books, playing cribbage, bowling and hanging out with friends who were family and family who were friends. Over the last nine years Mick added to the list of people who love him while working at Walmart on A Street. Meeting Mick was an automatic "like." He was generous, loyal and caring. He stood 6'6" and lived life big. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his older siblings, Zachary R. Neslon, Leslie A. Nelson and Nancy M. Nelson and younger siblings, Patrick R. Nelson, Sean K. Nelson, Thomas, J Nelson, Ronald V. Nelson and Robert F. Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.
