Neil Jensen Obituary

Anchorage resident Neil Torvald Jensen died March 8, 2013, in a plane crash near Dillingham. A service will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. Neil was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but lived in Anchorage since the age of two years. He attended his neighborhood public schools and graduated from Robert Service High School in 2009. He enrolled at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and in three years received a BSc in Aeronautical Science, with honors. Last November he was hired for a First Officer position by Ace Air Cargo, piloting Beechcraft 1900s. The work was challenging, but he was fulfilled working alongside fellow pilots. Recreational time was spent skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. Close friendships were maintained with friends from college. Neil was unusually attentive to his extended family, his younger brother, and his older sister. His parents could not have been more pleased with Neil's integrity, compassion, dedication, creativity, and humor.

Although I smile when I recall my times spent with Neil, the pain in my heart signifies the lasting impact he had on my life. He was one of the few friends that often checked in with me after we went off to separate colleges. I have many memories of Neil putting a room into laughter. And I have many memories of his support during tough times. I'm thankful to have met Neil and he will always be missed.

We were so saddened to hear about Neil. We knew Neil and his family from O'Malley Elementary and on through high school. He was between my two sons in age and ended up in some split classes together. Neil was always polite, quiet and did the right things. And so handsome! His family was always there for him and all his activities. His sister and brother were very special to him. Our hearts go out to all of you. May your memories keep him close forever.

Im deeply saddened by Neil's passing. We attended numerous classes together at SHS and were in the same '09 graduating class. He had a great sense of humor and brought a smile to everyone who was blessed with his presence. One of my favorite memories was during math class and he just got a origami calendar; every day before (and during) class we would test our skills. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Neil and I were in many classes throughout high school together. Even though I hadn't seen him in a few years, his sense of humor and light within still resonate when I think about SHS. Neil was the highlight of so many of my classes. He always had a great attitude and knew how to make us all laugh. I am deeply sorry for the Jensen family's loss, Neil will always have a special place in my heart. I am so glad to have known him, he was a beautiful soul. Until we meet again...

We can't even begin to find the right words that express the sadness we felt upon hearing the news about Neil. Our families were intertwined through our children's activities; their schools, their friendships, church and the same neighborhood. So we have very many fond memories of Neil, as we watched him grow up. May God comfort you at this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and your family.

Neil,
While I never had the pleasure of meeting you myself, I came to know you by the way Emily spoke of you. I could hardly wait to get to Alaska with her so that I could meet her compassionate comedian brother, of whom she was infinitely proud. Emily would always relay stories you told, jokes you cracked, and pictures you sent; these instances brightened my days without fail.

Neil, your positivity stretched further than you could have ever known. Perhaps more than even your family could have known.

You are loved here Neil, and always will be. Let the wind be your new voice, the sun your new smile, the tides your new heart, and settle above, forever watching, among the stars in the sky.

Jensens,
What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose. You are loved here, deeply, and that love will not cease.
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your faces, may the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Neil, I'm glad to have had the opportunity to be your classmate and group member... and I will never forget how we always seemed to pass each other at the exact same time at the exact same place on Mon and Wed going over the speed bump- we would casually laugh and throw each other a wave because it was just too cool of a coincidence. Not very many understand the passion of aviation, but a few of us lucky ones do, and I know you were doing what you loved. Rest In Peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
