Norman Peter Obituary

Lifelong Alaska resident Norman Nicholas Peter "Stormy Normie," 48, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends Oct. 20, 2010, at Alaska Native Medical Center of complications from smoke inhalation and back burns.

A public visitation will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St., for those relatives unable to make it to Bethel for the service and burial.

Norman was born May 6, 1962, in Bethel. He graduated from West High School in 1980. He was a commercial fisherman. Norman enjoyed subsistence hunting and providing food for family members.

His family wrote: "He always welcomed everyone with a warm smile, never turned anyone away, and made sure that they were taken care of. He will be truly missed by family, friends, and relatives. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the ER Team both at YKHC and Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. Also the ICU at ANMC for the wonderful care."

Survivors include his sister, Polly Lewis of Anchorage; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Florence Peter of Marshall; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Martha Peter of Bethel; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Harry Ayaprun of Anchorage; sister and brother-in-law, Renay and Michael Clifton of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Maxwell Peter of Anchorage; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Carrie Peter of Kipnuk; and sons, Brandon of Bethel and David Mute of Anchorage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Daisy Peter; sister, Martha; brothers Steven, John, James Jr. and Max; niece Agnus Peter; nephews, Johnathan Peter and Joseph Peter Jr.; and brother-in-law, Charlie Lewis.

I will surely and deeply miss to see Norman (I call him "Normal") when I go to Bethel. My sincerely thoughts and prayers to his family. He is "Normal Norman" now in heaven and may he rest in peace. Ruth in El Paso, Texas.
