Paul Hibbits Obituary

Paul "Animal" Hibbits passed away on March 2, 2013. Paul was born on May 15, 1948 in Camarillo, California. He attended Camarillo High School, playing on the football and wrestling teams. Too young to join the Marine Corps, Paul joined the Hells Angels. Coming of age in the 60's was an adventure like no other and Paul worked hard to "keep the fun level up and the rubber down." While filming "Hells Angels 69", he was introduced to the stunt business. As "Ed Lang," Paul worked on such iconic films as "Scarface" and "Superman." In the 70's, he befriended Willie Nelson and joined his tour as a bodyguard. While on tour in 1983, he and then-wife Barbara Hibbits traveled to Alaska. Discovering they were expecting their first child, they decided to stay and build a home in Palmer. Their daughter Amy was born a month after purchasing the perfect property facing Pioneer Peak. Paul worked in gold mines, on the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay, and the fishing grounds of Seldovia, and served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder for the Wasilla Fire Department.

In 2003, Paul fell in love with Maureen Emery, who moved to Alaska on the promise that Paul would build her a "dream kitchen" - which he promptly did.

Paul was a loyal friend, witty and honest, and always ready to help others. Even at the end, when he had little strength left, his desire was to help his friends in any way possible.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Amy Nashon of Tarzana, California; his grandchildren, Amari and Zion Paulino of Tarzana, California; brother, David Hibbits of Camarillo, California; his nephew, Charles Hibbits of Simi Valley; and, his niece Sarah Mora of Santa Cruz, California. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Leona Hibbits and his loving partner, Maureen Emery.

A memorial will be given by the Hells Angels at a date and time TBD. Paul's ashes will be spread by his family and close friends in Malibu, California, where he enjoyed hang-gliding over the Pacific Ocean.

I met Animal the summer of 1976, I was 10 yrs old and went to live with my father. My father was a Oakland Hells Angel and lived at the Oakland club house. Animal had a dog that rode with him on his motorcycle, he would lay across the tank. Here is a photo of Animal engulfed in flames, Halloween 1980 or 81' The best Halloween costume ever! He is and will alway be a hero of mine.. Miss You Steven Perryman

I will always remember Paul. I was a Freshman at ACHS and he was a Senior. We were on the same wrestling team and Paul was one tough guy. I believe this is where "Animal" came from. He always wore a yellow cut off sweatshirt that said the Animal on it every day during our wrestling practices. I remember him and Mark Post hanging out and having fun. RIP Paul.

I am saddened to learn of Paul's passing. He was a friend from elementary and high school and we communicated at times through the years. I will remember Paul as being one of the most real, honest, loyal and dedicated friends who would do anything for you. He had a wonderful heart and was selfless. When we spoke we would reminisce over times in Camarillo when we were young and laughed at some of the funny things we did or said. I have oftened used Paul as an example of one who knew the true meaning of friendship and had just shared this with one of my sons during the past few weeks. I remember during the 80's when Paul was working with Willie Nelson and on tour he visited me while in Tucson, Arizona and took a few of us to see Willie's traveling buses and enjoy the concert. I can't say enough about him as a human being and only wish I would have known he was ill so I could have spoken with him. My life has been enriched because of knowing Paul. I know he is in a wonderful place with all his loved ones that have passed. May God Bless Paul's family and my deepest sympathies to all who knew this special person and were apart of his life.

Love,

I will always remember getting into mischief with you, Marky and Marybell,
at their house on Highland Dr. You are
celebrating with them right now. The high school memories will always be cherished because of your "heart of gold". It was so wonderful running in
to you at the Willie Nelson show in Lake Tahoe in 1980. I will always smile when I hear your name.

For "Animal" & Family (both by Blood & Choice): May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
My 1st Post didn't make it through
But maybe this one will?
And if, by chance it doesn't,
I'll keep trying til I do!
Animal: You ride on the Wings of Angels
To a place only some will see;
And if by chance I make it there,
I hope you'll wait for me.
Until that time.....
If the Angels lift the bar,
I'll see you on the other side,Superstar!
In the meantime....
I'm gonna miss that smile,
I'm gonna miss you my friend,
I know it may sound crazy,
But I know it's not the end.
And while I bide my time down here,
If anybody sees....
I'm not crying cause I feel so sorry for you....
I'm crying for me. (JKB)

I met Paul when he was in the 7th or 8th grade and will always remember him for the big soul he had. I'm so sorry to learn of his passing; rest in blissful peace.

Paul always seemed indestructible. It's hard to believe he's gone. I knew him all through childhood and adolescence (until I graduated from ACHS in 1964), and we served together as acolytes at St. Columba's Church. His brother David was my boyhood best friend, and over the years I've had occasional news of Paul through David. I knew things weren't going well, but still . . . this is a shock. I don't think I've ever met anyone tougher than Paul -- and though he tended to conceal it, I always knew there was a big heart under that rough exterior. May he have the peace he deserves.

I was truly saddened to hear of Pauls (animals) passing, so many great memories and stories of him, I really regret having lost contact with you after H.S, but know you had a band of brothers that taught you well my friend.
Your heart was so big I will never forget in HS on the track team when coach McEwen asked you to compete in a distance race that you had not practiced for, never complained and didn't hesitate, you placed in the top and we won the meet, you look like hell when you finished but that,s how big you heart was you always did what was asked of you.
I will miss you MY friend

Paul was always trying and doing his physical best at ACHS. He was easy to know and wasn't into puttin anyone down. I remember that at graduation, his 'Angel' pals cheered when he captured his diploma. A bigger visual memory than that helicopter that swept Liza away that June evening in 1966. Paul had a full and active life.
