Proto-Deacon Andronik Kashevarof Obituary
Fr. Deacon Andronik was born in St. George Island, Alaska, on Oct. 14, 1927, to Eoff and Martha Philemonof, and as an infant was adopted by Walter and Helen Kashevarof.
He worked as a plumbing and heating technician and as a fur seal harvester operated by the Federal Government for 30-plus years. Fr. Deacon Andronik was tonsured a reader, in 1958, by Metropolitan Leonty Turkevich and was ordained Sub-Deacon by the late Arch Bishop Gregory Alfonsky. He was ordained Deacon by the late Bishop Innocent and was later elevated to Proto-Deacon by Bishop Nikolai. Fr. Deacon Andronik served St. George the Victorious Martyr Church on St. George Island for 70-plus years and followed his passion for the Russian Orthodox Church through his diaconate ministry of the Alaska Diocese.
Fr. Deacon is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Matushka Elekonida; his daughters, Gladys (Anthony) and Beverly (Christopher); his sons, Andronik Jr. (Sharon), Gilbert and Jeffery (Georgia); 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents, Eoff and Martha Philemonof; his adoptive parents, Walter and Helen Kashevarof; and his daughters, Anastasia and Clara.
Fr. Deacon Andronik enjoyed subsistence lifestyle, carpentry, especially making furniture, and was an avid baseball fan. He was instrumental in the preservation and documentation of the Aleut language and culture, as well as the restoration of the St. George Church. His passing will be felt by many who knew him.
A Panikhida service will be held at the Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage, on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at 2 p.m.
A public visitation will be held at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 401 Turpin Street in Anchorage, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at noon, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Burial Service will be at the Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery at 3 p.m.
A repast will be held at the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association (Unangam Ulaa), 1131 East International Airport Road, at 4 p.m., after the burial service.

He live a good long life being well satisfied during his days. All who knew him those days has now become a special treasure that will always be precious to them, those treasure are very close to their hearts and will last them a very long time.
