Raymond Graham Obituary

Raymond Iven Graham, 67, was born to Marvin and Ann Graham in Wallace, Idaho. He grew up and attended school in Mullan, Idaho. In high school he played basketball and football, where he got the nickname "Bubba" that stuck with him the rest of his life. He graduated in 1970, and was voted class favorite, best sense of humor and most popular.
Shortly after high school he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1972, where he would reside the rest of his life. After arriving in Alaska he worked for the Knot company, a supplier of food to pipeline camps, then worked for Air Freight Forwarders, Airport Drayage, Wits Air Freight, and was owner/operator of his own truck. Bubba's longest career as truck driver was with Airland Transport; it brought him great pleasure interacting with his customers and coworkers.
In Anchorage he enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, boating, bowling, basketball and men's softball. He had a passion for co-ed softball and formed the Armchair Athletes. He was a huge Seahawks fan from their inception in 1976.
In 1982, he married Nancy Teich and they had two children: Jeffrey Ray and Janell Elaine. He enjoyed watching his children grow up playing T-ball, soccer, baseball and football. He was an incredible father nurturing his kids into successful adults and very proud of them.
Bubba's greatest gift was the connection he made to everyone he met with his sense of humor and his interest in their lives. He was a big and tall man at 6' 4" with the kindest soul. He will be missed deeply as an incredible husband, father and friend. He will be remembered as caring, funny, and someone you could rely on.
A celebration of life will be held at Angelus Memorial Park, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage, on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please come with a memory to share with his family.
Raymond is survived by spouse, Nancy of Anchorage; children, Jeffrey Graham of New York City and Janell Graham of Anchorage; sister, Ann Payton of Yuma; brother, Lanny (Bonnie) Bettine of Kemmerer; sister, Debbie (Denny) Yockey of Moses Lake; and mother-in-law, Janice Teich of Anchorage.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and brother, Gary Bettine.

Dear Nancy & kids,
Please forgive me for not reaching out sooner. I have really struggled with Bubba's passing. I think we were in our 20's when we first met...although we all worked for different companies we were a very tightly knit group. We started the first ever co-ed softball league in Alaska. The "Air Freight Softball Association". Bubba and I would, much later, talk about the old days and how co-ed softball became a huge success in Alaska. May I, for one last time, mention how Bubba was up to bat, I was pitching and he hit a powerful line drive right into my shin! It hurt like heck but I think the pregame, during the game and postgame beer helped ease the pain! I will miss our back and forth banter about your Seahawks and my Pat's. I will be toasting you this season!
Oh what good times we had! Bubba's passing really hit hard...we are not in our 20's or 30's or 40's anymore. We moved on to marriages, kids and for some of us, grandkids. I realized my own mortality with Bubba's passing.
To my friend...I will remember you always. I will love and miss you forever.
Nancy, my heart is with you. I pray that you find comfort. Thank you for sharing Bubba with us.
With sincere condolences,

Connie Johnson

Nancy, Jeffrey, and Janell...we are all so sorry to have to say goodbye to Bubba. He truly was one of the good guys. I'm pretty sure he never met a stranger...always flashing the Bubba smile and ready with a big hug. I am forever grateful for the memories I have tucked away in my heart. Sending hugs and Love to all of you. XOXO Connie

Sad to hear that Bubba passed away. My condolences to the Family. I've known Bubba for over 25 years through our work. Bubba drove for Airland and I work at an Airline Cargo company...I always looked forward to seeing/talking to Bubba everyday. He always had jokes and was always a happy guy. I'll miss you my friend. Rest In paradise Brother.

Always looked forward to his truck backing up to our loading dock. After not seeing Bubba for many years he came out of nowhere in a store, grabbed me up in a big ole bear hug while jokingly pushing my husband away. Only to turn me lose and grab my husband in a big ole bear hug. That, was the Bubba we had come to know and love. In fact, we named our big lovable lab puppy after him. He is one of the ones you are fortunate to have cross your path of life through the years. We feel very fortunate for that.

Nancy, I'm soooo sorry to hear of Bubba, he will definitely be missed, his sense of humor, wonderful guy, a great friend to hang out with softball fishing camping. I met Bubba back in the early 80's though Airland Transport, softball. Then got to know him more in the late 90's early 2000 on our crazy fun fishing/camping trip with his co-workers. My condolences to you and your family. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Nancy, I might have met you in 1995. I went to work at a mine out of MaGrath and stayed with Paul a couple of times while working there. I was living in Haines and when my job changed to a different mining company I no longer flew to Anchorage. Lived in Haines for 23 years. Moved back to Idaho last April. I am so sorry for your loss. Bubba was a great guy and I am sorry I didn't stay in contact with him. I know Gary as well but haven't seen him in many many years. I couldn't figure out how to just respond to you on this sight to answer your questions. Thus another message. I will keep you and your family in my prayers

Another great one is gone. Having known Bubba for many years in Anchorage, and in the transportation industry, he touched so many us. The laugh, the smile, the respect that he showed everyone he met. In his final week, I was able to check in with him. Even then he had that sense of humor. He called me one crazy dude. What a compliment from such a guy! With that it is time to say good bye to yesterday. Keep an eye on us Bubba. Cheers.

In 1973 I moved to Anchorage from Idaho. From 73 to 74 I shared an apartment with Bubba and in him I found the funniest most kind hearted man. We had some laughs Bubba and I including filling out apartment with smoke when we put Turkey tv dinners in the oven Thanksgiving night and fell asleep with them still cooking at 425. Sorry I fell out of touch over the years. Great friend and a big loss for all. Rest in peace my friend.
