Rebekah Beck Obituary

Rebekah Louise Beck, 37, died August 31, 2011 at Northwest Hospital in Seattle. She was born January 1, 1974 in Panorama City, CA, but spent most of her childhood years in Anchorage, AK. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jaigne Beck, and her stepfather. Surviving are her father, Timothy Mahoney (step-mother Connie) of Wasilla, AK; sisters Sarah (Ben) Eich of Spokane, WA; Sparrow Mahoney of St. Michaels, MD and Rachael (Steve) Satterfield of Glen Allen, VA; brother Joseph Mahoney of Wasilla, AK; uncle Robert Olshansky (Elizabeth Tyler) of Urbana, IL; grandparents Murray and Phyllis Olshan of Sherman Oaks, CA; and stepmother Linda Sloan of Palmer, AK. She had a large extended family of many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a network of friends from various times in her life, all of whom tried to support and help her over the years as she struggled with addiction. Rebekah lived in Danville, WA where she attended high school in Grand Forks, B.C., and subsequently in Ojai and San Francisco, CA, and finally Seattle, WA where she has lived for most of her adult life. She was a prodigious reader of literature, was a talented writer, and had a sharp and witty intellect. We will all miss Rebekah, and we are deeply sorry that she could not escape from the addiction that prevented her from having the rich and full life that she deserved.

I must commend your family, for being so bold as to mention that she could not escape from addiction.
If more people realized that addiction does kill those we love, maybe it would help those whom are fighting this to keep fighting the battle.
Thank you.. and I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Hey Beck,

Your friends down here miss you very much. You were the one that always held us together. You will be around forever and see you soon!!

A real individual, a thinker and questionner. Bekah was courageous for the sake of others and deeply desired connection with others and to live a meaningful life. I will remember her that way. I will miss her so much. I wish I would have been more present in her life. Fly, little one, but remember us on your travels.
