Robert Boyd, Sr. Obituary

Robert E. Boyd, Sr. was born on September 18, 1935, to the late James and Mary Boyd of Bracey, VA. He transitioned to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Sunday morning, August 21, 2016.
He gave his life to the Lord at an early age, joining St. Mark's Episcopal Church where he was a faithful member until his death. He had a strong faith in the power of prayer. During early years, he was very active with the choir and served as Secretary of the Vestry.
Robert graduated from Mecklenburg County Training School in 1953. He retired from Parker Oil Company after over 32 years of dedicated service.
He married his lifetime sweetheart, Mary, whom he met while playing his favorite sport, baseball. Some even said that he could have been a professional player. There is only one word that describes their relationship, "inseparable." You would never see one without the other. His love for his wife was everlasting. They were blessed with five daughters and two sons, all of whom he adored. He loved his family more than life itself. He was a quiet man who touched the lives of many. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to share; he never complained. He found great joy listening to his favorite radio show, "Tradio," and watching his favorite football team, the "Dallas Cowboys," which probably is why he loves blue. His favorite baseball team was the LA Dodgers and Duke "Blue Devils" Basketball team.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Marilyn Harris and son Michael Boyd; seven brothers- Presley, Alvis, Walter, Howard, David, Russell, and William; three sisters - Seleah, Larah, Ida Mae, and a special niece, Sandra.
Robert, a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, cousin, uncle, friend, and neighbor is survived by his devoted and faithful wife Mary Boyd of 63 years; son, Robert Boyd Jr. (Charlene) of Tampa, Florida; three daughters, Sheryll Heard (Bill) of Virginia Beach, VA; Carol Edwards of Fort Washington, MD; Barbara Boyd (special friend Steve Nottingham), of Silver Spring, MD; and Kathy Boyd of the home; one son-in-law, Raymond Harris of Holley Springs, NC; six grandsons- Roderick Harris (Torrie) of Chantily, VA; Michael Harris (Jennifer), Burke, VA; Robert Boyd III, Tampa Florida; Chadwick Boyd, Shreveport, Louisiana; Kevin Feggins of Portsmouth, VA, Kaleb Boyd of the home, and Deshana Edwards of Fort Washington, MD; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Sofia Harris of Chantilly, VA.
He also leaves the memory of three sisters, Katherine Crenshaw, Harriet Cannon, and Inez Boyd of South Hill, VA; two brothers-in-law - Alvin Mitchell (Lillie) of Vauxhall, NJ, and Calvin Wynn of Washington, DC; two sisters-in-law, Christine Ogburn (John) of Washington, DC, and Jeanette Wynn of Fredericksburg, VA; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. May the peace of the Lord be always with Mary.
