Samantha Koenig Obituary
Samantha attended West High School and AVAIL High School. She was employed at Subway, House of Harley, and had just begun working as a barista, a job she had longed for.
Samantha loved animals, friends, fishing with Papa, playing music, photography, writing music and poetry, camping and playing Call of Duty with Duane.
Samantha was full of life and had the biggest personality. Her smile would light up a room and to hear her laugh would brighten anyone's day. She had an infectious charm and a brilliant "sarcastic wit". Her desire was to work with animals, whether in the equestrian field, or the wild animal kingdom. She was considering enlisting in the Navy to become a nurse and build a lucrative career. Her family will always be proud of her.
Samantha had her Father's heart from the moment he knew she would be coming into this world. He never knew he could fall so in love with another human being until the day Samantha was born. He wouldn't leave her side. She had the funniest giggle snort laugh when she was a baby and thank God she carried that laugh and wonderful personality with her into adulthood. Samantha will always have the hearts of those who loved her. Her father always said, "I love you Honey Bunny."
Samantha's life has brought not only our community but communities around the world together. She has touched the hearts of many from family and friends to complete strangers. She will be missed by many but in our hearts forever.
Samantha was preceded in death by her Great Grandparents, Walter and Anna Koenig and Grandfather Walter Milton.
Samantha is survived by the Koenig family; her father, James Jr.; her Papa James (Tina); Grandma Shirley; Great grandmother Carol; Auntie Pam and cousin Kaylee; Auntie Michelle and cousins Shaynah and Taylor; Auntie Lynn, Uncle Bob and cousins Cole, Jacob, Caleb and Robert; Auntie Tammye and cousin Alandrah; Auntie Tina, Uncle Scott and cousins Jamie, Jeffrey, Oliver and Morgan.
Samantha is survived by her boyfriend, Duane Tortolani II and her best friends Ashley Rene Sollenberger and Kelsey O'Connor.
She is survived by the Christiansen family; Her mother, Darlene (Rich); grandmother, Florence Milton; grandparents, Tom and Susan; her brothers, Travis and Alex; sisters, Tonya, Kaylee and Micah; niece, Michaela; nephew, Jeremiah; aunts, Shirley, Karen, Theresa, Vanessa and cousins Daniel, David and Frankie.
Samantha is also survived by her pets Sheeba and Mulisha.
Samantha was cremated at sunrise on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012.
The Celebration of Life for the public will be held on Sunday, April 22nd from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at West High School Auditorium.
Prior to the Celebration of Life Service there will be a remembrance room available from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18th through Saturday, April 21st at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home located at 11621 Old Seward Highway.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you keep Samantha in your thoughts by sharing a smile and a laugh with those you encounter.

I didn't know Samantha but saw the postings of her every where and checked the newspaper daily in hope of her safe return. Therefore, I felt the need to attend her heartfelt celebration of life memorial. I am very appreciative for the lime-green wrist bands provided with her name and the touching sentiment printed on them, which was such a thoughtful gesture. After putting mine on that afternoon, I vowed not to take mine off until justice prevails for her. And I urge all who received one to do the same, not just to honor Samatha's memory but to send a long-standing message to the community that she is valued and should not be forgotten.

Samantha I know there wasn't always times where we got along. I wish I could replace those with better memories but more than anything I wish you were here. We all miss you so much. I am sorry for what has happens to such an amazing family and a beautiful girl. I only wish she would have retuned to you safely. She was a wonderful young women and very smart. I have a brother-in-law that is one year older then her and I know I would be so hurt if I ever lost him. She is the same way in my heart as my brother-in-law and I cry everyday. Hi Sam , I am so thankful that I had the chance to know you as a young child. The memories of you and Morgan playing together, you were like sisters. Your smile lit up the room , and the silliness, and laughter that came from the both of you, still puts a smile on my face . Your dad and I became such good friends because of you two. The bond you two shared was evident to all even at that young age. I remember you saying " your welcome , I did that for you ... Whether it was an act of kindness, or a chore given to you... You beat us "saying thank you, before saying that... And now that memory is embedded in my heart, along with you two getting your pictures taken, and just the sweet nature you had. My biggest regret is that life got in the way, and we drifted out of each others lives.. But I thought of you often, and love you like my own. I don't understand why this happened, and my heart breaks whenever I think about it, I have to go with the scripture given me when we were still searching for you, and that is to " walk by faith not by sight" I know you are in heaven watching over us, and you see how much your life impacted anchorage as well as the whole country..you see how much you and your family are loved , and what a blessing your dad is to other families trying to find their lost ones. Sam, I am so thankful that I wad able to know you as a little girl, remembering how sweet and bubbly and how full of life you were at such a young age, I remember you and Morgi being as close as sisters, and your dad and I the best of friends. I cannot imagine losing one of my grandchildren - the pain would be so much to bear. I believe we are given the tasks we are given for a reason. We will not be given more than we can handle. It was the most miraculous thing to see people of different origins, backgrounds and beliefs come together for this young lady. This is truly what a community is supposed to be. She not only made Alaska stronger, but she made our Country stronger. Her life here was so short, but perhaps that is part of what her purpose here was.
