Scott Harding Obituary

Scott Harding of Homer, Alaska passed away on January 3, 2012 from complications of Multiple myeloma. He was born in Portage, Wisconsin in 1952 and moved to Alaska in 1976. He worked at Prudhoe Bay for 30+ years and sold real estate in Anchorage and Homer for 5 years. He and his wife, Mary Ann, moved to Homer in 1992. Scott had been receiving cancer treatments on and off since 2007 at the MAYO Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. He passed peacefully at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

His many relatives, friends and co-workers will miss his wonderful smile, the sparkle in his eyes and his unending energy. He will be remembered for his kind, accepting, warm and gentle nature. He had a way of making those around him feel better by listening and sharing his optimistic outlook on life. Scott did not wait for life to happen; he made it happen.

Scott had an adventurous spirit and was an avid outdoors man and nature enthusiast. He was especially passionate about fishing, boating and spending time on Kachemak Bay. His other hobbies were flying, bird watching, gardening, reading, and working on home improvement projects.

Scott is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his mother, Carol Harding, Portage, WI; his 5 siblings and their families. He was preceded in death by his father N.R. (Dick) Harding.

Scott will continue his fight against cancer through the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life events. He is the Honorary Chairman of Team WAKO (We All Know One), the team he devoted much energy and many hours to in his effort to help raise funds to find a cure for cancer. Scott made an Anatomical Bequest to the Mayo Clinic and donated his body to them to further medical education.

A Celebration of Scott's life will be held in Homer in July.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Relay for Life of Homer, P.O. Box 1505, Homer, AK 99603 or to Seasons Hospice House, 5650 Weatherhill Road SW, Rochester, MN 55902.
