Thomas Garlock Obituary

Tom Garlock of Anchorage, Alaska, peacefully passed away on June 22, 2018, from pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by his family. Tom was a man who truly loved the outdoors and all that Alaska offered. Tom shared that love with his wife, Victoria; his son, Jonathan (Erin); grandson, Greyson; and daughter, Emily. Tom could be silly, serious, positive, compassionate and adventurous. Tom had a smile that was contagious and would light up the room. Tom lived his life with a good balance of a strong work ethic, but most important to him was the love for his family. Tom served in the U.S. Army and then went on to complete a bachelor's degree in psychology from University of Alaska Anchorage, and his master's degree in counseling and psychology. Tom worked for the State of Alaska for 30 years helping the youth and their families. Tom continued to give back to his community serving on the board of AK Child & Family.
Tom lived his entire life giving back to others, he continues to give back by donating his corneas so that someone else can have the gift of vision.
Tom married the love of his life, Victoria Weindel. He is survived by his father, Robert Garlock; mother, June Davisworth; brother, Rob Garlock; sister, Linda Pumphrey; brother, Deo Garlock; and nieces and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his son, Tyler; and his twin brother, Jeffrey.
A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church at 1801 O'Malley. Please wear your favorite "Alaska wear," flannel, hiking, camping etc.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom's memory to St. John United Methodist Church.

Many years ago, Tom (I called him Tommy) and I enjoyed getting into a handball court together and chasing a little blue ball around. Tommy Garlock was a fine athlete, but more importantly he was a gentleman and good sport. My memories of him are enduring and I will miss his infectious smile.

Tom was indeed a wonderful person. I worked with Tom for many years, he was always cheerful, gracious, easy to work with and fun to joke with. My condolences to his wife and family. The world has indeed lost a beautiful light.

I shared cases with Tom decades ago when he worked for the State of Alaska and then had the honor of connecting with him again where he served on the Board of Directors for AK Child & Family. He was always a kind, gracious and generous person. The last time I spoke with him he shared stories about his beloved family, with a big smile and his face beaming with love and pride. The world was a better place because of him. He will be missed by many. My sincere condolences to his family and closest friends.

I am so very sorry for your loss.
The last few days I have had him on my mind and felt like I should call him. But I did not want to repeat the mistake I made the last time I called ; it was 4 in the morning. Tommy being the kind soul that he was just let me know the time difference , and ask if he could call me back a little later. And I am so glad he did. We chatted , catching up on the last 45 year. It brouht me joy to reliaze how content he was with his life in Alaska how much he loved his wife and children and how proud of them he was.
Your loss is great, but you blessing is greater, to have loved and been loved by Tom.
He will be missed ,but he left us all with such wonderful memories of him.
